Question:

Why are people already handing Brandon Webb the Cy Young?

I personally feel that Lincecum deserves it more then anyone because of the stats he's been able to put up on a not so great team. I think this proves that he's the best pitcher. Assuming history repeats itself and the award doesn't go to a pitcher from a losing team ( last winner from a losing team I believe was Steve Carlton around 1982-83) why is Webb being handed this award. First off I think the Dodgers will win the West. Second there are other pitchers out there with some solid stats as well that I think deserve to be mentioned when talking Cy Young.

Brandon Webb 16-4, 2.93 ERA, 134 K

Aaron Cook 14-7, 3.68 ERA, 77 K

Kyle Lohse 13-3, 3.73 ERA, 78 K

Ryan Dempster 12-5, 2.93 ERA, 133 K

Edison Volquez 13-5, 2.93 ERA, 141 K

Carlos Zambrano 12-4, 2.76 ERA, 98 K

The pitcher who should win it

Tim Lincecum 12-3, 2.68 ERA, 175 K

  1. I would also like to know that. I agree that Tim should win it. I think the people who go on here and give it to Webb don't take the time to look at the other pitchers around the league. A pitchers W-L record is very misleading.

  2. Because he can maybe get AL hitters out

  3. I agree. Lincecum should really have 13 or 14 wins by now except my Giants' bad bullpen cant seem to hold a lead before Brian Wilson steps on the mound. Leads the MLB in strikeouts, the lowest ERA out of all of the potential candidates and is extremely dominate on a team that gives poor run support. Only 24 years old (younger than Volquez) with potential beyond limits. He has been overshadowed by Webb and Volquez so there isnt a lot of attention on him.

  4. I COMPLETELY agree that Lincecum should win it but the thing is I think these voters take wins into account a lot. And Webb has 4 more wins. However if both pitchers maintain this record, I think it will go to Tiny Tim because he deserves it.

Only prob is that he's been worked hard so they might shut him down early (say 28-30 starts) and then the fact Webb will end up with maybe 5 more wins and 20 more innings will give him a huge advantage because his got solid peripherals as well.

    I vote Lincecum though.

  5. because he has the most wins in the majors, a decent era and the fact that he plays for a average ball club at best, i too tend to agree with your pick of Lincecum

  6. You are, of course, assuming that Lincecum finishes the year right? I don't think Lincecum wins it because I do not believe the Giants will let him go much over 175 IP this year.. So, if the Giants shut him down for the year on, let's say, September 1 - he still get the Cy? No ...Webb will win it.

  7. A few key points..

Lincecum has more strikeouts, a lower ERA, and less Losses. webb has more wins but he is on a better team (one that scores runs). also, even in some of lincecums losses, he should have won but got no run support. I do believe that the pen lost a few of his starts as well. every time i watch this kid pitch i just know we're watching a superstar for years to come who may be more dominating than any pitcher in our era

  8. I don't think they have handed out that award yet. So Tim may still get it. Too bad he is on a horrible team.
