Why are people always bashing on emo kids?

Question

I'm not "emo" myself, but emo doesnt mean you cut yourself or wear tons and tons and tons of makeup. It's just a genre of music that came from like hardcore punk. and it can be associated with the "emo" style...

but why is emo being stereotyped with tight skinny jeans and black hair and studded belts? and most disturbing, how come people are steroetyping it with suicide? Sure, people have killed themselves before. and a lot of them weren't emo.

it's like labeling everyone else a prep.

Tbh, most 'emos' i meet fit that stereotypical style.  I mean, what annoys me about them, is that most of them say 'i choose to dress like this to show my individuality' when in fact, they just dress exactly the same as other emos.

well, people bash these "emo" people because the label themselves this.  And wearing skin tight jeans, "guyliner" haha and long hair just isn't guy-like.  And the emos also refer to it as a "life style".  What kind of a lifestyle is that?  They just need to be normal and not try to act cool by dressing like a girl(unless they are a girl), and think they're different form everyone elses.  =D

Emo used to be a genre of music, but now because the stereotype has grown so out of proportion it's its own sub-culture. Emo is just a huge stereotype because it's a fad; it's been made popular. Look at the things they show on mtv and whatever else. Teens see that and they want to follow it. People don't like the emo sub-culture (not the music) because it's just another stupid money-grabbing trend.

Who knows. I used to be a part of the straight edge scene/ hardocre punk scene. But there were a few who ruined the image for everyone.

That's how society is, there's a few who tend to drown the image for everyone else. It's really stupid that the mainstream is like that. I would say it all boils down to the c**p that's fed to us through TV and the modern media!

They only push sad and disturbing stories! My only question is, who was it that decided the people only want to hear the sad and disturbing stuff. I sure as h**l don't!

The problem is that "emo" kids are looked at as phonies because they pretend to be individualists, but in reality they are attention seeking idiots just like everyone else. Why else would they wear those stupid a$$ tight pants. The suicide thing is more associated with the goth tards than the "emo" douches.

because emo kids are retarded little brats who hate the world and think they are individuals when they all act and dress the same, they think they are the most miserable people on earth, and 98% of the time they are just faking to fall in with a crowd....

do people who like hip hop generally wear ekco , southpole, sean john, baby phat,. generally yes...  

does an emo kid wear those, generally no..

because whether or not we like it, stereotypes exist.....  because there are certain styles that attract certain people....  so that brings groups of people who like those things together, and thats why they are identified as a stereotype.  because they generally migrate towards something that makes them what they want to be.

i like the first answer to this question.

emo kids should get made fun of simply because they choose to be part of such a group.  that in itself is despicable.

of course, maybe it's just other people labeling these kids emo, maybe they aren't choosing to be part of that group themselves.

but if they are, they deserve everything they get, and more.

Emo, is very emo.  Emo kids (I am practically emo) are those people who like their emo music such as the Used, which are all about their problems and how much they hate everything, becasue they do hate everything, us true emos are pretty depressed and although many emos cut themselves (cutting is a way of releeasing your inner pain) it is not a requirement of thesubgroup.  Emo is related to suicide because we are depressed and so people think that we are suicidal, we aren't.  As for the skinny jeans and studded belts, it's a way of showing that you are emo but it's more than that, if you were to just wear the emo clothes, yoiu would either be goth or scene (the emo posers who wear the clothes and don't actually have a bleeding heart)

Emo music did indeed come from the ppunk rock genre of music, but it is deeper than that, emo music is very angry and sad will often talk about suicide or pain or sadness or depression  the lyrics below are the idea of emo music with pain and such but the music itself is not really emo but all the same it's pretty good

As I said this music is not punk but oh well deal with it.  Emo sort of stands for emotional because us emos are sensitive, last night at abbout midnight my mom comes in and asks me why I'm not asleep (I was online finding some good emo music) and she asks if there is anything I want to talk about and I start crying.... um yeah, I hope that helped in your quest to find true emo and what it means,  One does not become emo, one embraces their emo nature.

I don't bash on emo kids, but I have to say I am a hardcore punk fan, and for the music that they listen to, to be considered as a derivative of punk music is disgusting.  They are being stereotyped with the skinny jeans and what not because that's what most 'emo' kids wear regardless of whether or not they actually are emo.

Emo kids are always seen as whiny depressed teenagers who like coffee and cut themselves. Not all emos cut. It's stupid how the suicide thing is tied in with the emo subculture. I'm not emo but I'm against the violence against emo thing. It's immature. Just leave them alone. Have you ever seen and emo threatening a preppy dude with a razor blade? It's more likely that gangsters and jocks look down at the emo. The emo might have some real problems and need to deal with it by cutting.

The thing I hate about emo is that they say: I want to dress like this because I'm different from everyone else. And they go to hot topic and buy  everything that a typical emo wears.

Labels are stupid and are for soup cans. I mean preps can be emo. They'll wear all this girly stuff on the outside but they could secretly listen to Hawthorne Heights. Emo is short for emotional so that means everybody has to be emo. Happy is an emotion...right?
