Question:

Why are people convinced that global warming is cased by carbon dioxide?

when the carbon raise, and the global tempratures don't match, but most people will probobaly tell me: "Actually, they do." But don't give me those scam charts that don't show past 2000 because they are afraid to show people how the earth cooled, I mean serriously, we are still on a warming trend but do you still have to exadurate the truth, but anyway...

The only time the carbon emmisions and temprature matched was from 1980-1998. From then on it was completley wrong, the carbon kept going up, but the temprature fluctuated.

  1. Almost certainly because it can be attributed to man. I think we're doing ourselves a favor by putting more CO2 into the environment. Plants love it and we love plants. I can't believe the way the treehuggers have turned their backs on their green leafed friends.

  2. Al Gore

  3. Follow the money.

Liberals have long experience in scaring  the sheep into doing as they wish. This scare is no different. Frankly, I'm tired of listening to them crying wolf again and again. Global cooling, global warming, ozone holes, deforestation, mass extinctions, invading species, etc. etc etc ad nauseum.

Oh, and apparently, SOME PEOPLE can't tell the difference between a 90% CO2 atmosphere on Venus and a 0.003% CO2 contribution by people. Absolutely laughable. Baaa! Baaa!

  4. Carbon dioxide is a harmless plant food.  Plants and trees take it in and expel oxygen.  I certainly am not convinced, in fact I stand firmly against the idea of carbon dioxide causing global warming.  In fact, I'm against global warming because it doesn't exist.  Nobody can tell you any place in the world where the temperatures are hotter due to global warming.  To correct you a bit in your first paragraph, we are no longer in a warming trend...haven't been since 1998 and it appears we are now entering a cooling trend.

If someone proves c/d as a gas that IS causing global warming then I'll change my way of thinking, but so far that has not happened.  It's still a baseless theory held onto by a few scientists and lots of politicians and lobbyists.

  5. 1) The gradual advancement of science on CO2 science over the past 100+ years is summarized in detail by a physicist on this site:

    http://www.aip.org/history/climate/co2.h...

    2) The 750°K temperature of Venus, with its atmosphere of 90% carbon dioxide, is strong evidence supporting greenhouse gas theory.

    http://www.ias.ac.in/resonance/Mar1996/p...

There are many potential mitigating factors, such as ocean currents (responsible for the El Nino/La Nina weather influence), aerosols, and cloud cover, so the relationship between CO2 and temperatures is nowhere near as direct as you'd like it to be.  In other words, temperature not directly tracing CO2 from year to year to year is not unexpected at all, and it certainly doesn't disprove global warming theory.

To be clear however, CO2 is not mankind's only source of a warming influence.  Methane is a stronger greenhouse gas that we cause to be emitted through landfills and raising cattle, but the total current influence and growth rate of CO2 is simply higher, so it's more important at the moment.

Black soot is also a serious issue, with an influence as much as 60% as strong as CO2's.

Black carbon pollution emerges as major player in global warming - PhysOrg

    http://www.physorg.com/news125500721.htm...

"Black carbon, a form of particulate air pollution most often produced from biomass burning, cooking with solid fuels and diesel exhaust, has a warming effect in the atmosphere three to four times greater than prevailing estimates, according to scientists in an upcoming review article in the journal Nature Geoscience."

"Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego atmospheric scientist V. Ramanathan and University of Iowa chemical engineer Greg Carmichael, said that soot and other forms of black carbon could have as much as 60 percent of the current global warming effect of carbon dioxide, more than that of any greenhouse gas besides CO2."

So much for the U.N.'s claim that developed nations are to blame, and developing nations not have to take part in any solution.

As for your claim that global warming stopped in 1998, that's blatantly false:

    http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/mailings/2...

The year 2007 tied for second warmest in the period of instrumental data, behind the record warmth of 2005, in the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) analysis. 2007 tied 1998, which had leapt a remarkable 0.2°C above the prior record with the help of the “El Nino of the century”. The unusual warmth in 2007 is noteworthy because it occurs at a time when solar irradiance is at a minimum and the equatorial Pacific Ocean is in the cool phase of its natural El Nino – La Nina cycle.  Figure 1 shows 2007 temperature anomalies relative to the 1951-1980 base period mean.

The global mean temperature anomaly, 0.57°C (about 1°F) warmer than the 1951-1980 mean, continues the strong warming trend of the past thirty years that has been confidently attributed to the effect of increasing human-made greenhouse gases (GHGs) (http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/2007/2007... The eight warmest years in the GISS record have all occurred since 1998, and the 14 warmest years in the record have all occurred since 1990.

So why no link to your source for the lie you're repeating that warming stopped in 1998?

  6. Because that's what the data says.

Given the physical properties of CO2, it MUST cause warming.

  7. Because they have Al gore and yes. The media is very good manipulating people. What will be of the News without Global Warning?. They are easily manipulated.

We have issues with the environment but higher emissions of CO2 is nothing but a media scam. People confuse CO2 gases with other poisonous gases like CO and NO2 which cause health problems and cause the smog in cities above. These do cause harm but are not part of Global Warning. Also No one ever asks if the sun's solar activity might be contributing to this as well which plays a huge role on Earth's hot temperatures.

  8. Because it's a greenhouse gas.  Simple physics.

If you're interested in the scientific evidence that shows how we know the current warming is caused by human CO2 emissions, I summed it up in the wiki article I wrote linked below.  In the section titled 'Carbon Dioxide Feedbacks' I addressed the 800 year lag you're talking about.

  9. I'm not convinced.  And lately water vapor is the new green house gas.  The whole thing gets more ridiculous all the time.

  10. Warming more at night than the daytime....  These questions really bring out the crazy people.

Let's face it...  If CO2, which is supposedly manmade CO2 was causing global warming, then back in the 30's when the world's population and industry was less than a third of what it is now; the night time temperatures would be much cooler and the daytime temperatures would be much warmer due to the LACK of greenhouse gas.

However, that simply isn't the case.  These people work extremely hard at pulling stuff out of the air that makes sense to them, when in fact it is all just a bunch of gibberish.  We are not heating ourselves up!  That is the simple fact and the cleaner our air is, the warmer we get.  Remember that LA smog thing?  We heated up to record temperatures once that smog was cleaned out of the air.  Basically, we are putting a shade over our head.

If CO2 being 385 parts per million...  Which factors out to about one 2500th of our atmosphere was that powerful, we would be packaging it in everything but CO2 extinguishers, which by-the-way, cools fires.

So, their ridiculous arguments are so lost to common sense.  If CO2 were all that, then we would not cool when the sun went down and we could not cool off in the shade.  Like when you are in a swimming pool, is one side of your body warmer toward the sun?  Nope.  So, their global warming CO2 c**p is just that.

  11. Science, physics...

  12. Stuff all the blind with science b ullsh it man.

Go and hole yourself up somewhere closed in and burn out all your oxygen for a week. Then try and grow something in the space you've been in or re enter it after just 15 minutes and see how putrid are the effects. The common people living slob lifestyles and running for and in, the capitlism rat race are s******g up the globe at one h**l rate. Get real.
