  2. it's simple - since they live in the South they get more sun , as it shines more intensively, so they get more sun burn

  4. it's a genetic thing. people in the north are descended fro a mixture of swiss, french and austrians. the people from sicily and southern Italy are a mixture of people from the viking lands and north Africa and the other nearby islands like sardinia. to tolerate the intense sun in the south they are genetically inclined toward darker skin.
