Why are people in southern Arkansas so paranoid about snow?

I live in southern Arkansas and any time there is mention of snow,people go to the store and buy all the bread,milk,toilet,paper,etc.It is so friggin stupid.Why do they buy the stores out of everything like they're gonna be snowed in for a month?The snow lasts one day at the most.Heaven forbif I run out of bread and want a sandwich during this time because someone is sitting home with 12 loaves they just purchased.What is wrong with these people?

i live in northern arkansas and i think they do it because it hasnt been a very hot summer at all and this winter its going to be horrible storms.

Heck you guys do not even have snow like us Michiganders do, and they all go nuts here also.  The stores are packed, they are all grumpy, pushing and shoving everybody.  The milk is gone and the bread....I hear you there it is so disgusting.  And the weather personnel is helping the matters either...they trek the storms...and break in and tell everyone get the the stores and get food now....I am stretching the truth here some..but you get the picture.

  So do not feel alone in your feelings as Michigan is the same way.  But we do get some bad,bad storms here and it will take days to get out......so I do just try to have all of this on hand..that is what you do in the winter prepare..
