Why are people intent on insulting and dismissing Americans who are from small towns?

Does being from a large city automatically make someone more intelligent? I grew up in a rural area and I am offended by the attacks on Sarah Palin that are based on where she's from. I don't yet know who I'm voting for, but people who make this particular argument are a real turn-off. In fact, I don't even think Obama would approve of these stereotypes.

  1. I've lived in some very small towns (as small as population 450) to some pretty big cities (8 million).

Small town people are exposed to less but I've noticed no big difference in intelligence between small town and big city people.

  2. Yeah.  The whole liberal ideology is about the yuppy and welfare crowd who are basically urbanites.  Not the hard working American who pays the bills crowd.

Hope Sarah gives them a good kick where they need it the most.

  3. Actually, Obama's campaign will use another term, but it means the same thing. They will use the term 'inexperienced'. A term which could be equally applied to him as well. He knows nothing about running a country. Senators do not even run state governments, Governors do, not Senators. She has more practical experience running a state budget and government than Obama.

I like the fact that there will be a woman in the White House and that she isn't owned by the press, lobbyists or other politicians in Congress. She will have little or no skeletons in her closet of any merit and is actually just what we have been whining about, she is truly a fresh face and new to Washington, therefore, not owned by anyone, and owes no one. She will be able to think for herself. She has a happy, modest, middle income family life background and lifestyle, which will be strongly supported by the public, even more so now that the economy is so bad. Joe Biden is independently wealthy, so is Obama. She could be just the brilliant stroke that McCain needed.

  4. If you are talking about Palin, I think she's walked the bigger towns:

  5. Because people from big cities or ones from the East or West coast somehow think they are smarter, better educated and just better than the middle of the country and small towns in general. Sarah Palin will get slammed by them but it won't matter. McCain-Palin will win in a landslide. Nobody can afford socialist Obama's new taxes. Just one of them is income taxes.

    INCOME TAX

    MCCAIN (no changes)

    Single making 30K - tax $4,500

    Single making 50K - tax $12,500

    Single making 75K - tax $18,750

    Married making 60K- tax $9,000

    Married making 75K - tax $18,750

    Married making 125K - tax $31,250

    OBAMA

    (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)

    Single making 30K - tax $8,400

    Single making 50K - tax $14,000

    Single making 75K - tax $23,250

    Married making 60K - tax $16,800

    Married making 75K - tax $21,000

    Married making 125K - tax $38,750

  6. inner city kids today think anything outside city limits is like green acres...as for obama he would approve of anything that helps with his power grab

  7. Especially when much of the country is small town America. Big cities have a liberal elitism problem. They have equated liberalism with enlightenment. If you don't have their liberal view, you are not enlightened. Since a lot of small town America is conservative (compare the red states to blue states) they try to portray small town people as idiots. Just look at the movies (liberally controlled) as an example.

  8. Most are only interested in their own communities and are not interested in bigger things and all the stress of a larger view.   Frankly,  I feel she may get razzle dazzled with such a Big world out there.

  9. Because,They have small minds!

  10. It's just a form of bigotry.

Hillary didn't get the election, and no female was seriously considered as Barak's VP because the Democrats know they can pander to women and then dismiss them and still get their votes.

People get respect when they are willing to walk out on someone who mistreats them, even if it is not in their best interests to do so.  Game theorists call that a trusted irrational actor.

If I lived in a small town and I had some politician describe me as a bitter person who clings to my guns and my religion I would sure remember him come election day.

  11. Let's face it.  Small town minds simply means set on old ways..far removed from reality...at least some people's realities...which there is NOTHING wrong with...until you try to govern with those old ways.

    TIME MARCHES FORWARD.

Unfortunately America is pretty backwards for the most part...out of touch with people who really live with people side by side and not MILES apart.

Too much time on your hands....and idle mind and all that you know??

All people do in small towns is gossip and shove people's faces to the ground in church if you aren't everything they want you to be...and please do not tell me otherwise...I've heard it from many an American friend how DEEPLY rooted you people are in all that religious stuff.

And hey I'm Italian...and I'm nowhere that nutso on religion as a practicing Catholic.  I have g*y friends, black friends, and my kids are the minority in school as whites and I have no problem with that whatsoever.  It's a great world when you embrace one another as human beings!  Something Americans have not yet mastered.

See what I mean here below?  Take a gander.  Fastest growing disease in the west...or rather small towns!!!  Governed by fear...for people so full of "God" you surely don't act like Christians with your hate, bigotry and intolerance.

  12. I haven't heard anyone say that she is "stupid" because she is from a small town.  They are merely concerned that her experience running a small town, and a small state, have not prepared to run a country of 300+ million.

  13. City dwellers have a lot of insecurities, they try to overcome these by a false sense of superiority, over others they see as inferior. This is elitism,  you constantly see this tactic used by liberals to try to overcome their own shortcomings. Very sad for them.

  14. Do you think its a big leap from your small town of 8,411 to a nation of 350 million plus? Do you have any experience with the diverse groups that make of this country and their problems? the VP is the head of the senate. As such, is the head of the Senate and will set and steer the legislative agenda of the administration through congress. Biden is a parliamentarian so he wil help Obama pass bills. what is that she can bring to the national stage from a small town of 8 thousand?

  15. It's not that we think you're stupid. Well, some are. It's not about intelligence, but ignorance. There's a big difference. Time and time again, when we read stories about rural towns or rural politicians, they have no grasp on what is going on in the rest of the country because they are so geographically segregated. I read a Newsweek article not long ago about a rural town in the Midwest where basically a few people who watch Fox News spread word around that Obama was a muslim, and then the whole town believed it just because Billy Bob up at the corner store told them so. When the reporters came to their doors asking what proof they had, they said they trusted their neighbors knew what they were talking about and slammed the doors in the reporters faces. This is only one example, but rural towns seem so blissfully ignorant.

And Sarah Palin only serves to prove the argument. She's from a rural area, and readily admits that she has not kept up with the war and has no clue what the VP actually does. If I didn't know she was from Alaska, I would swear I just heard a banjo playing.

  16. Liberal elitism at its worse....goes along with Baracks comments on people clinging to guns and God...you know Sarah does and she seems like a very politically astute young lady.

  17. im from a small town and im a genius!  hehe!  XD

    cities r nasty anyways!

  18. Obama wouldn't "approve of these stereotypes?"  He helped to CREATE them!

Remember his bitter remarks.  Don't forget them.  THAT is the attitude that Barack Obama carries and spreads around.

  19. You'd have to ask Obama and his supporters that. I live in rural America.

  20. They're just snobs.
