Why are people interested in becoming City Commissioners? What is the true motive?

Whether you are talking city, state, town, county or hamlet, there are always people who are interested in how their government runs,  who is in control, what goes on in their meetings and why things are not being done to improve  their lives or why money is being squandered.. They run for City Commissioner so they have a direct say as to happenings within their jurisdiction. That is the motive of the majority who serve. There are others aspiring for positions in politics and must serve in some capacity to be noticed. What better than a City Commissioner.?
