Why are people nasty and insulting when responding to a question here?

I have had the experience of some real mean and nasty people responding to a question I posted and have read mean and nasty reponses on other peoples questions.

Why do these people respond like this?

Did they forget the old adage about not having anything nice to say?

Lots of reasons.

Sometimes they feel the answer is just so obvious.

Sometimes people are just mean spirited

Sometimes it's personal

Sometimes they're just tryin to be cute or funny

Many people weren't raised with the "traditional" values and old adages.

they just think their funny.  even if they know will

hurt the asker. they hide behind the keyboard.
