Question:

Why are people nicer to a muslim woman than an ordinary woman?

Today, I conducted this experiment to see how people treat the muslims differently. But my test result turned out almost the opposite of my assumption. I wore the Hijab-looking scarf surrounding my whole head, and I wore sunglass to conceal my eyes. I looked like muslim though some poeple reading this probably want to argue i would not look muslim but just someone wearing a scarf and sunglass. However, how could they explain the obvious fact that they treated me whole lot differently than when wearing no such scarf? I expected some rude treatment actually, but they were even much nicer to me assuming that I was muslim. I might have been wrong but I caught somone yelled "Mohammad" somewhere behind me. Overall, they were so much more friendly and more polite than how they usually behave offensively to ordinary people. Why does this happen?

I don't need your silly comment. Please provide a valid answer.

  1. Since the behavior of people varies widely with location, pre dominant religion of the area, region and even the time of day...it would be very hard to comment on your reactions...response would be very different if you conducted this experiment in east LA at 11 pm on saturday night than if it were done in Eugene, Oregon at noon.

For myself, I would be more 'courteous' of a muslim woman in hajib for the same reason I would a lady in Mennonite or Amish dress or a nun in habit...because I would honor the persons personal committment to their beliefs and their courage in showing them.

i wouldn't be nice to someone just because they are Muslim
