Why are people obsessed with the Twilight series?

Why are so many people (namely teenage girls) obsessed with the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer? I read the first book, and I was totally unimpressed by the absence of strong plot, the pitiable lack of chemistry between the lead couple, and the flimsy characters and situations. It is the most unremarkable book - so why are people utterly hooked to it?

My name is Edward, and I can't tell you how annoying it is to be asked about the series all the time...

  3. because it is just how they are in love defying all the odds wit their mot unusual relationship and then how she feels when he leaves but then comes back and then all her feelings with the engagement the marriage renesmee and the volturi and their happy ever after

  4. It's because mindless teenage girls found a hot guy they can drool over. Apparently they still haven't figured out that he isn't real.

Edit: Your name's Edward? Oh, that's awful. Really, I feel so bad for you. When you say your name, do girls ever say, "Oooh, like Edward Cullen!!!"

  5. That sucks, your name is Edward. It seems like girls would assume that you read the books and try to talk to you about them

  6. haha i know it's really lame, but if you see it from a 13-year-old girl's point of view, it's simply our stupid fantasies about the perfect guy only written by some middle aged woman.  so honestly it is lame, there is not story, and honestly there is no action, but a young girl does fantasize about stuff like that....maybe minus the vampires.....haha.  so i think we would have to be 13 year old girls to truly appreciate the plot and writing style.  if you're legally an adult, it is a bit of a joke :P

  7. BeCUAse is lik teh best boook evarf111111!!!

And inexperienced youth don't know any better

  8. Edward Cullen. He's the "dream guy". I personally think Edward is a manipulative stalker. I mean, he follows Bella home to watch her sleep because she smells good? Yeah...not weird at all.

But a lot of girls think the protectiveness is sweet and that he's romantic.

My friends and I read it because we like vampire novels. It has nothing to do with the "romance".

  9. I am guiltly of being one of the Twilight obsesse people -- but I DO get why some people wouldn't like it. Twilight is geared for teenage girls, and so teenage girls are going to like it, because that's the audeince Stephenie Meyer was trying to get to. Now, we all have our own opinon of what a "strong plot" is. I'm thinking you read diferent kinds of books, which is ok. Does that make sense?

  10. its like the best book ever created ive read each book 4 times and i cant wait for the movie and the book from edwards point of view to come out

  11. People obsess over "Twilight" for the same reason some readers can't put down Harlequin novels -- it's all about the romance.

The vampire mythos contains several elements that suggest seduction -- not the least of which are the sharing of blood and penetration -- in this case by fangs. All this happens on such a subliminal level that readers get hot and bothered without quite understanding why they are getting hot and bothered.

  12. i think its cos its pratically every girls dream, forbidden love is the best, as a boy i doubt you'd really uinderstand that not that im stereotyping you or anything lol i dunno :)

  13. I always told myself i was NEVER going to read the Twilight series, but I just finished the first two books in less than 15 hours and am anticipating my start on the last two tomorrow.  It's weird.  I just simply cannot stop reading..

  14. that sucks.....I can imagine people are like, "OMG ur name's Edward??? Like Edward Cullen???!?!"

    Twilight sucks

  15. It feeds into tweenage girls' fantasies. Bella is so lifeless, it makes it so easy to put yourself into her shoes and imagine that perfect, cold, sparkly granite is kissing you instead. Oh, how I love my perfect, cold, sparkly granite.

Edward is supposed to be Prince Charming in these books. Yeah. Right. I'm so sorry he has your name, by the way. It must suck.

  16. Because literature has become business these days, and novels that are modern bestsellers are actually of no value. People dont like complicating themselves with serious novels with strong plots which make you think, they prefer reading a simple story that will not force them to think.

I look through the Arts and humanities section questions, and the majority seem to be precisely about Twilight. You may recall that when Harry Potter books were still comming out, every second question was about it.

    Thats how people have become...Simple.
