Are you proud of being American, Korean, French, Egyptian...?(what ever you are)

if so WHY?

I mean people are born the way they are, there is nothing to be proud of,

parents can be proud of their child because he ACHIEVED something,

a person can be proud of him self because he ACHIEVED something

but why are people proud of their nationality, it wasn't achieved we were just born that way and we cant change it, its like saying I am proud of having dark hair, I am proud of having hazel eyes...?.?.?.

I am not saying be ashamed, I am just saying there is no point of being proud of something you didn't achieve, you cant help but be American, Korean, Egyptian ...etc.

  1. I am proud of being Jamaican-American because

hearing and doing research about were my family came from makes me even more happy and proud of having that Jamaican nationality

  2. People like to feel proud of their nationality, because it is something that they identify with, that is to say that they feel that it is a part of them. To feel proud of their nation, is to feel happy within themselves (at least, in this aspect). Also, remember that some people are naturally more clannish than others, and have a stronger need to identify with a group, and their personal 'group memberships' will have a stronger impact on their identity.

  3. I'm proud to be a mixed American with my Ancestors coming from Latin America.  And now we can all move on to more pressing matters...

  4. I am proud of the fact that I personally believe that the United States is far superior than every other country. I have achieved much by my very existence and every breath I take is a gift to the entire planet.

Obviously, proud is not the correct word in this instance. I prefer to choose the word grateful or content with ones race or nationality. Pride leads to greed and a sense of self-superiority. I believe that there are more positivee and less destructive feelings. It is possible to appreciate ones ethnicity without egotism spilling from ones mouth.

Grammar is the real issue here. Pride should not be applied to such superficial ideas. Pride does denote achievement and when used correctly. It is better to be happy about ones achievements without the arrogance which is often involved.

  5. By comparison to some other nationality, I suppose, by accomplishments as a Nation. It seems to lead to conflict and wars. It is a good question, that deserves a clarification

  6. Yes, you are right...It looks pretty absurd, actually.

But I think that this feeling is simply a logical behaviour for the human race. "Men are wolfs for men", as the famous proverb says. In History, men have always fought against other men, for survival, and that's why clans have appeared, and these clans became later tribes, and these tribes became nations.

That's why people usually feel proud, because they have a legacy which they inherited from their ancestors and which they will transmit to their children...Behind the honour and the pride, there are in reality very basic motivations : instinct for survival and instinct of reproduction.

  7. I'm proud of being a Croat, because of our history and indentity, I'm proud of my ancestors.

  8. I'm sure at some point in your life you wondered who your late ancestors were. If not, most people do and when they learn about them they become proud of what they DID way back when it was they did it.

  9. The best identity to have is one of self. Those who have no sense of self, search endlessly for an identity that they can be part of and then go and "Represent" most people who join in the beer swilling fighting English football crowd only do so to get an identity, i.e. "we are the hardest drinking most violent European Nation", this makes all other nations think that we are ALL like this, which is grossley offensive as I, like the majority of my fellow countrymen and women are cool and will be really welcoming to you should you decided to visit. So be proud of who YOU are not what country you come from or what colour pigment is in your skin, this is just a distraction rfom how cool you really are!
