Question:

Why are people putting so much stock into this 2012 stuff? What else did the Mayans predict accurately?

Just curious why this date holds to be true vs. any other dates in our lifetime that were supposed to be the end of the world (Nostradamus?). I understand the Mayan calendar ends at 2012, but is that the only reason?

  1. Nothing.

People that "predict thing" that turn out to come true also have thousands of predictions that don't come true.

If I had that much free time I would sit here and make predictions and at least one would come true. the world will not end in 2012, you can hold me to that.

  2. Didn't even know about this, but its interesting lol....

  3. I've heard this before and i don't get it. We have cars they had horses he have sky scrapers they had 1 story buildings so they couldn't have been smarter then us. So no i don't think the worlds going to end and the calender ending is the only reason i know of.

  4. The Mayans also thought the sun was God. They sacrificed humans to the sun. Do you believe the sun is God?

Nostradamus predicted aliens would arrive on Earth in the 1990s.

    Rubbish.

  5. I really don't know much about this at all, but i heard that they predicted 9/11 as a date of tragedy

  6. Good question.

Ever since the 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenario did not pan out, the scare mongers have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

"But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

Each new Christian denomination seems to worry about the end of the world a bit too much. Then after a couple of centuries, they realize that there are always wars and rumors of wars, etc.

I won't even mention the hundreds of false predictions of the end of the world over the centuries, all of which were based on individual interpretations of biblical prophecies.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everthing happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

  7. people believe stupid stuff...

  8. Thats just because the Spanish Conquistadors came and wiped them out before they could write 2013.

  9. its just something to talk about....Ppl dont really believe it!

  10. They Mayans didn't predict the end of the world, 2012 is just the date when their calendar ends it's current cycle. At the end of each cycle it is said that catastrophic events occurred; flooding, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. These things can be explained by the pole shift theory and it is predicted by scientists that when the sun's magnetic poles and the Earth's magnetic poles switch in 2012 it could trigger a pole shift or solar flares or something, but they really don't know what will happen. Our solar system will also be aligning perfectly with the galactic plane, so the Earth will be getting hit with lots of radiation from our galaxy, and we will have a much higher chance of getting hit by asteroids. But the Mayans predicted that we will ascend spiritually and pass into the next cycle, so if they are right we should be fine in the long run. :)
