Why are people racist to middle easterners??

Question

I'm not middle eastern(I'm east indian) but I look like I'm persian or arab. I've noticed lately that it's acceptable to be racist to people of middle eastern descent and people who look like them.

A LOT of people think muslims are bad and all middleeastern people are ugly, hairy, unclean, smelly and so much more(this one includes indians). Noone even thinks twice about saying a racist comment to my face but they will NEVER say those things to a black person, white, latino or asian.

So my question is WHY SO IGNORANT ANS STEREOTYPICAL TOWARDS THIS SPECIFIC RACE??

People are just stupid and ignorant.  If people still think All Mid Eastern people are terrorist after 9/11, they need to go jump off a bridge.  Paranoid and ignorant people are racist, and they people they hate will never be extinct so they might as well suck it up and get to know thy fellow human.

Since 9-11 right wing politicians can use middle eastern people as scape goats to get people's minds off the problems they don't fix. Also there will always be people who hate people different than themselves. Another reason could be there aren't that many middle eastern people in the U.S. so many people don't know them personally.

What many people don't realize is many terrorists are not muslim.  Look at hate groups like the KKK, the Oklahoma bomber, and Bruce Ivans with the Anthrax.

I'm Black and Italian so many people think I'm middle eastern as well. I just hope we become more tolerant as a country sooner rather than later.

i am hispanic, not mexican, but mexican american.i also have to learn to tolerate a certain amount of racism. it seems that non-caucasian people will always have to be the recipient of some form of discrimination. i know it isn't correct to say this. but some of the ignorant point of views are passed on form generation to generation.

can i ask you have you ever been discriminatory to anyone ?

99.9% of muslims are honest hard working decent people,but 99.9% of terrorists are muslims.

This may not be understood, but I will make this as clear as I can. Unfortunately, it has a lot to do with the right-wingers that are running this country. People in America like to pretend that we have freedom, but we truly don't. When a majority of people (no matter what their background is) has as much power as the right wingers (also known as conservatives) do, they have the power to dictate how American society should act. They own the media, which shows you mainly negative things about people who are in the minority, and if a person doesn't look for him/herself at how people are without that manipulation, he/she will believe those stereotypes about people who are in the minority. When 9/11 happened, Middle Easterners got added to the list.
