Why are people saying that the world is coming to an end?

Take a look at the economy. Prices are rising. Eventually, no one will be able to afford what they need to live and get by. It's going to keep getting worse, unless our economy has a turn around, and the chances of that aren't so good.

I think the Mayans predicted the world would end in 2012, the date when the next presidential term would end.  

The world is always "coming to an end", usually when people die, that's the end of the world for them.  It could mean a nuclear holocaust or the end of a certain type of government, or the end of prosperity, as in The Dark Ages after the fall of Rome.

The end of humanity in general will be "the end of the world".

The best information about this subject has been around for thousands of years and yet it is the true source of information that is made fun of.  But that book explains the end of man's rule and the beginning of God's rule.

A good summation in story form is the book series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins called "Left Behind".  There are I think 11 books in the series and it begins at the rapture of the church.
