Question:

Why are people scared to pass a police car, while driving?

Is this some unwritten rule, not to pass police cars. I was driving on the highway yesterday, when this state police car was driving the posted speed limit (55 mph). It was about 10 cars behind him, and no one would pass him, even when he slowed down even more. I wanted to so bad, but I did what everyone else did, slowed down to stay behind him. It was a 2 lane highway, it stayed this way for at least 8 miles, until he got off. Would you have passed him? I think he did on purpose, and would have ticketed anyone who passed him. If I would have went 60 mph, and passed him, does he have a case for giving me a speeding ticket? Are you allowed to go up to 5 mph over the posed speed limit? I'm unsure of the law on this.

  1. LoL I think I would have done the same thing if I was that cop, he's just messing with people haha. He can't actually even give you a ticket if you pass him at 65, since they need to radar your speed in order to issue a ticket, which they need to be stationary in order to do. The only way they could pull you over for passing is if you were driving recklessly, or were perceived as under the influence.

  2. There is no problem passing a police officer as long as you aren't speeding. If he is going 50 in a 55 and you want to pass, then go for it. And NO you aren't allowed to go up to 5mph over, in any case. THAT will get you pulled.

  3. I have had some really lame excuses from drivers, who usually deserved getting a ticket, but if you see a policeman driving, he or she is most likely checking out a property, business or place because of a previous disturbance. Giving out tickets is not first on their priority list. It's kind of like, icing on the cake when a driver is in a hurry, and not wearing a safety belt.... Ba Da Bing! it adds up!

  4. If you had to go above the posted speed limit to pass him, he could write you a ticket.  But if he is going slower and you pass him going the speed limit, then he would not.  It is kinda funny though...if a police car was going 10 mph, everyone would go 10 mph right behind him!!

  5. allot will be scared about getting pulled over or going or there stop check list for doing it but if there slow you have every right

  6. If he is going the speed limit, yes he can ticket you for speeding if you passed him.

    56 in a 55 zone is speeding.

It all depends how much of an ****** the cop is.  Is it worth finding out?

Michael D: You will be surprised with a ticket one of these days.  A cop can get your speed with radar from the other oncoming lane.

I've been busted by a cop who was going the other way, passed me, then did a u-turn in the road and hit his lights.

His radar calculates your speed, then subtracts his speed.

And he doesn't need to be stationary.  Look up the note for Mode.

  7. Im actually not scared i love passing police, or following them around,

  8. People are not "scared to pass a police car" people are just scared when they see one. For the majority of the population of the world, police (or other figures of authority) are the biggest threat that they encounter in their lives.

This would be the same if some gang would kick out the police from the area, people would be afraid to pass in front of the car run by the members of that gang.

  9. Yes I would have passed him,I do it all the time. They cant give you a ticket if your doing nothing wrong.I have never been pulled over for passing a cop.

  10. It just good common sense not to violate the law right in front of a police officer. I don't know where you got the idea that the speed limit is 5 mph higher than what is posted, but that's just idiotic.

  11. Personally I like tailgating them like they do to me when they are behind me, I sit just to the left of them

  12. I pass cops all of the time.  As long as I'm not speeding or breaking and other traffic laws when I do it.

  13. Move to Pinal County AZ. Problem solved there are no officers here that dont drive at least 15 to 20 miles an hour over the limit
