Why are people so against 12 year olds having a cell phones?

My sister is 12 and got her first cell phone right before her 11 birthday. She has only had 2,abs we are on the two year contract. My parents have asked her and me what kind we are going to want. Hers will be her birthday presant,but she gets to pick it out. I was reading some questions on her about 12 year olds having cell. My sister text's on hers and she calls her friends but she is supposed to have it for emergency's and she has had to use i for one. I honestly don't think any thing is wrong with it as long as they are responsible with them. What is your opinoin about them?

well if they being responcible its okay, but it doesnt sound like your sis is being responcible wiht it

People assume they'll treat it like a toy and be a pest by using it to disturb people around them.  Frankly, adults do the same thing, so why the drama?

I think it's alright for a 12 year old to have one for emergency use.

Especially at the young age, what happens if they get lost, or something worse. or they need something. All that stuff. And yes, if they are responsible, what is the big deal

People are against 12-year-olds with cell phones because, drumroll please, THEY DON'T NEED THEM.

Teens are already addicted to texting at ages of 14, 15, 16, etc. Why addict people who aren't even teenagers yet?

I don't even have a cellphone, I've never had a cell phone. I'm quite a bit older than twelve, and people think that's nuts but I don't understand why - I'd never actually use a cell phone.

People are just cell phone addicts nowadays, so they think EVERYONE needs and should have a cell phone. I don't.

People are texting while they're driving and causing serious car accidents - doesn't that tell us something? That people are a bit too attached to their phones?

If that doesn't, I don't know what will. But 12-year-olds do not need cell phones.

I think that they don't have a concept a responsibility quite yet. Some may, but it's not for sure.

And plus, what other 12 year old is gonna have a cellular telephone?

because 12 yr olds use it to text and not the purpose they were given the phone to use for
