  1. He is going to ruin the local landscape and the golf courses will not help the local economy.  They will take away from local hotels and restaurants and help a very rich man get even richer.

  2. To turn the hole of Scotland into a golf course. I say no, we need to protect our natural beauty he can do it in America its a far more bigger country and there is enough golf course in Scotland as it is.

  3. i suspect that it may be because history has shown us that even large wads of cash do not buy class or style.  No matter how big, ritzy and stylish it's MEANT to be, and no matter how much cash is thrown at it, it can very possibly reek of crass, nouveau-riche gaudiness. Besides, the biggest and the most expensive does NOT make the best. It can never compete with St Andrews and some of the more established courses.

  4. probably because they want to protect the land instead of making it into a millionaires club

  5. a) Scotland belongs to the Scottish people, not American billionaires

    b) The proposals will damage an area of natural beauty currently available to everyone, and make it available only to a small number of 'golf club members'

  6. The land that he wants to buy is a natural habitat for lots of wild birds and animals and is also a beautiful beach areas with amazing sand dunes, which at the moment, everyone is free to use.

It is not just a golf course he wants to build, also a large hotel and executive housing. The last thing Aberdeenshire needs at the moment is large, overpriced housing which will be bought as holiday homes and lived in a few weeks a year.

  7. why do capitalists like donald trump think they can dig up every square inch of unspoilt land just to make a profit?

its not like the guy needs money

does scotland really need another golf course anyway?  surely not

1 golf course is 1 too many anyway

  8. They want to preserve that land.

  9. The Scottish highlands are not a plaything for rich businesspeople, nor do I personally want to the the landscape spolied. He wants a golf course, let him build it in the Florida everglades, see what happens then.

  10. The problem is that a large part of Scotland will become a gated community for billionaires.  That isn't to the locals' taste.

  11. not if you want to enjoy the Highlands, its not cool, let him go and buy some land in America and stay there.

there are too ,many golf courses in UK as it is, every time i see one i think of the land that's just wasted. Wasn't it Mark Twain who said golf is a good walk wasted.

  12. 1. Because Scotland is beautiful and should stay that way.

    2. If Donald like golf so much why doesn't he buy one of the very many courses that already exist (Scotland is the home of golf after all) could it be that it is about making money out of empty land more than the love of a good game?

  13. The objection is because of the area that he has identified for use. It is an area that incorporates sand dunes which support many unique plants and grasses, and a very diverse range of wildlife.

Local people, nature lovers and ecologists are all vehemently opposed to the ruination of such a finely balanced eco-system.

There should be some things that money can't buy!
