Why are people so concerned about Gustav?

It seems like that is all that you hear on the news (Gustav, Gustav, Gustav) but what the American people are really concerned about is the presidential election. I think that we would rather hear Senator McCain speak about issues of the country rather than hear about the mess that New Orleans is in.

That's an old issue. Hmm...they have bad Mayor and Louisiana has a bad Governor. It's pretty much the fault of the people that live there and voted in their elected officials. Don't ask the rest of the country to fix all of your problems.

Do the news people actually think that someone in Las Vegas is even going to care what happens in New Orleans? Of course not! We have our own community to keep us busy. What we are interested in are matters that concern the nation and not some city off of the Gulf of Mexico.

The media today spends way too much time on issues that only matter to small local areas when the people care about the nation and world as a whole. Oh well how do we expect them to learn anyway?

  1. I have lived in Vegas over 20 years and I care, so speak for yourself. Why can't politics be put on hold 1 day while people are leaving their homes to save their lives. The fact that elderly people are having to be moved from their nursing care. That hospital patients are being painfully moved out of the hospitals and transported. That children have been separated from their loved ones. Were talking millions of people.

Think about it a little farther than what you have and be just a little compassionate and hope it never happens to you. Karma can go a long way. Now go back to your air conditioner.

  2. I live all the way in Europe and I care about Hurricane Gustav and New Orleans!

I'm an American citizen. I don't want to see anymore needless losses of lives.

Of course you should care! Everyone has a mother, father, child, uncle, aunt, friend, etc. that loves them. Everyone is a human being.

I find it interesting that you are concerned about the presidential election but, not about your fellow brothers and sisters in danger.

  3. sometimes i wish were back in the times of 3 TV channels, and a blank screen after midnight. there is too much time to fill with so many 24 hour news agencies vying for ratings...its hard to gauge what is what.so...now instead of having little news, we have  way too much news...much of which is inaccurate, and overwhelming.

simpler times with a hefty dose of ignorance of world events dosent sound too bad to me right now.

  4.    We live in a time of crisis media. They blow everything out of proportion to get ratings. Sensationalizing the news is big business in terms of pulling in viewers and thus increasing ad revenue for the stations.

  5. well i m not an American but i care for those people. think about it. it could  have happen to you too. u are so selfish.

  6. kinda shady.. it's your country.. as messed up as it is.. you should have some concern for the other people in it. I think everyone is so concerned because after what happened during Katrina.

  7. Rick hit most of it right on the head, but since you are undoubtedly only concerned with your self, let's take it to your personal level. Oil: with the destruction of offshore platforms your gas prices will double or triple very soon.  Merchandise: NOLA is a major seaport, do you buy and use anything that is imported, Rising prices again, Seafood: hope you don't like it Goodwill towards others: we won't waste it on you whenever your area has a natural disaster Heaven: sorry only the caring, loving and compassionate go there. Have a great day all wrapped up with your politicians, you're going to make a good one.

  8. Are you really that self centered?

    Or just really naive`?

With Gustav hitting "some city off the Gulf of Mexico", this could effect oil prices across the nation.

Many have family and friends who live in some of these cities that are being effected by Gustav.

I have family in Pensacola, Fl; Gulfport

,MS; my daughter is stationed,(USCG) in Morgan City,LA.

Not sure where you reside at, but, let me know.

That way I can make sure to ignore the plith of your community. Being that it won't effect the "entire Nation".

Gee, your right. Sandstorms, Nuclear waste dumping, Earthquakes, hookers, murder, etc...

What a wonderfully, happy place you live in.

    Good for you.

  9. what a media can do.?  it should cover the worst hit hurricane disasters and to report and also the presidential election which is a national affair and also the world is watching.  so, the media is doing its best on concentrating both.  All media's correctly reported about gutsav hurricane well and how it damaged the area and people's sufferings.   The people are concerned because, it will make more disasters and the people's living to be taken care from affecting.
