30 years ago VCR's were doing the same thing in almost every home then the World went crazy for a while and stepped back into VCD and DVD player technology with no recording capability.

Now DVR's are touted as revolutionary for doing what we could already do 30 years ago.

  1. Who is excited, I don't see any one excited about getting DVR. With a DVR you don't need to buy a VHS Tape to record and rewind. That saves money and time, so why not be happy in saving money?

  2. Because DVR's are like VCRs on steroids.  They bring back the old VCR capabilities without the headaches.

No fussing over whether or not you have the exact time for the recording.   You select a television show, and the DVR finds and records it for you.  If the show moves, the recording moves with it.  People with Cable Decoder boxes are especially happy since they regain the ability to watch one show and record another (something they lost with VCRs a long time ago)

No tape to degrade or rewind. stop and restart it at will.

Plus, people hung onto their VCRs well into the DVD age simply because, there was no way to record on the DVD.  Now they are getting that capability back
