Why are people so hypocritical?

I don't mean to point this at my sister...but she's just the most recent and repetitive example I have.

Today, on the way back from church, she was (to summarize) saying that it was rude for me, and the group of people I was talking with, to exclude only 3/4 people out of the group (there were 10ish of us total).

First, I admit that it was rude and senseless, and also to note, it was the entire group that excluded the people.

Second, was it really THAT rude to exclude 3/4 people? I get what she's saying when she says that we shouldn't have excluded people, especially since our group was the majority of the total people there, but she said that if it was just 3/4 people that were talking and excluding she would understand. But regardless of how "rude" it is, it's still talking and wanting to keep privacy, even if, unintentionally, it excluded a small number of people.

To be continued in 3/4 minutes (Ran out of "characters")

  1. The world is imperfect. It really shouldn't be THAT big of deal to you, considering most of the world goes through a different variation of that situation every single day of our lives.

Siblings can be a pain. But when it all comes down to it, we love 'em, right?

  2. The problem is the word "rude" is too subjective.  We all have vastly different standards on courtesy.  No one thinks of him or herself as "rude."

I would consider some of the things you mention that she did as rude, and others as inconsiderate or mean.  But these are all subjective terms.

Plus, people have different standards of courtesy depending on who they are with.  Some people think it is fine to lower standards when they are with family at home.

I understand your frustration, but do your best to be patient and understanding.

  3. Have you tried talking to her about it?...cuz usually people don't change because no one tells them to. That's why they think they're always right.
