I think of him as nothing more than a big Felix Trinidad. Easy to hit. Easy to out box, Easy to knock down. Of course not by me but anybody with some technical skill.

  1. you are not very smart with boxing if your comparing tito to louis..

plus if your a real fighter, not just any but a good fighter, you'll see and understand why every one that loves boxing loves him...

joe louis had 25 title defenses and was a ko pucher... to most hes the number1 heavyweight of all time.

  2. You've got somewhat of a point.  But Joe could develop frightening power on seemingly weak punches.  Watch closely and see how strong he was with short punches.  Didn't he pick up Primo Carnera like he was a sack of stryofoam packing peanuts?  Not an easy task during a fight.

He beats Klits, Lewis, Grant, Rahman, Tua, Byrd, Norton and Ruddock no problem.  Probably beats Bowe and Holyfield, and 50-50 against Frazier.

  3.   JOE LOUIS IS A ROLE MODEL AND ICON AROUND THE WORLD AND I'M NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT BOXING YET! THE "IMMORTAL" LOUIS combined excellent harmony of movement with crushing power stored in both hands. He did everything expected of a CHAMPION . He brought back to boxing life and color that was sadly needed.Defended title 25 times,33-0 betw.1936-48. 5 1st rd.ko's in title bouts. It just goes on and on.

  4. Joe Louis was a complete fighter and one of the greatest of all time.  He had good boxing skills, great ring generalship, power in both hands, and maybe the greatest finisher of all time.  He was champ for almost 12 years (a record) and 25 title defenses (also a record)  When he retired the first time in 49 he had only 1 loss in his career and 0 losses at all from 1937-1950. What other champ can say this?  Joe finished with a career record of 68-3-0 (54) with wins over Jersey Joe Walcott (2) James Braddock, Max Baer, Max Schemeling, Jack Sharkey, Primo Carnera, Billy Conn, and John Henry Lewis all former champions.  His 2nd fight demolition of Schmeling is one of the most devastating performances in ring history (1st rd kayo)  He was not only a credit to his race but to mankind, a humble man in and out of the ring which is certainly a rarity these days in the "Me" generation.  Saying Byrd, Grant, Rahman, Tua, Ruddock could have beaten him is insane and inaccurate.  Joe would have been a tough fight for Ali, Marciano, Frazier, Foreman, and Holyfield too and would have knocked out Johnson in my opinion.  Tyson lost to Douglas and you tell me he would have beaten a great fighter like Louis? Lewis was a fine champion but once Louis hit him solid, the fight would have been over without a doubt in my mind. Give me a break about the Klitschko's.  They are more of a modern version of Primo Carnera. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I have respect for others on this forum even if I disagree.

  5. not in my era so i dont give a f*ck about em

  6. All around as a fighter taking all the skills into account Louis is the second best fighter,  Ray Robinson was the best,  I ever saw.  He had great pride and a heart that matched.  His record matches up with any of the greatest heavyweights that ever fought.  His ranking as one of the top five heavyweights that ever fought would tell you how he would do against a Johnson, Klitschko, Norton, etc.

  7. We're impressed because he was one of the greatest fighters in history. He defended his title 25 times! Who in this day and age can say that? No one. Some of those names you listed of guys who could beat him are pretty laughable at best. It's not fair to compare boxers from different eras anyway. Heavyweights nowadays are so much heavier it's ridiculous. You had guys back then fighting at heavyweight at under 200lbs. Nowadays they are fighting at at LEAST 225lbs. That is considered a "small" heavyweight nowadays.

  8. dynamic puncher, very fast hands, extremely accurate, perfect timing, great chin and heart, would have retired the first time with a record of 62-0 if not for the schmelling loss, and would probably have stayed retired if not for the government robbing him blind, only muhammad ali and jack johnson were better heavyweights (arguably).

  9. The funny thing about your opinion is you name all these guys that could outbox him but Marciano, Grant, Rahman, Tua, Norton, Foreman, Frazier, & Ruddock were not boxers.   Ali would have been a very hard matchup for Louis, so would Foreman, young Tyson & probably Lewis because of his size.  But today's boxers aren't very skilled.  The Klitchko's aren't that good they are big & the younger one doesn't take that good of a punch.  Also Riddick Bowe that's the most overrated fighter in the history of boxing.  At least Louis didn't act like a coward & duck someone like Bowe ducked Lennox who tko'd him in the Olympics.

Ali is the greatest heavyweight of all time & Joe Louis is 2nd!!!  Also Louis's final record was 69-3  He was 27-0 before losing to Max Schmeling he had a rematch with Max & KO'd him in the 1st round he was 61-1 when he lost his 2nd fight at the age of 36 & then with the IRS making him fight for the money he owed them he got beat again by Rocky at the age of 37.  Also in the Rocky fight the judges had him down 2-4, 3-4 & 2-5 so on two cards they had him competitive at 37 with a prime Rocky who was 28 years old.  If they were both 28 years old Louis would have killed Marciano.

  10. historical impact and the quality of opposition of his time; max schmeling, jack sharkey, primo carnera, max baer, jim braddock, ezzard charles, jersey walcott, rocky marciano, john henry lewis, and billy conn just to name a few !!!
