Why are people so mean to overweight people?

It seems like every kind of predjudice is not okay except the onw against overweight people. Most of them are only overweight because they can't afford anything but fast food, are despressed and want comfort food, or are too stressed to plan exercise or diet. They seem to be the last group of people that need a hard time.

  1. I see your point, people in general are very mean or judgmental of overweight people. However, overweight people do have the last say in how they look, no matter what they say or think. Mind power has a bigger effect on people than they may think. All people have to do is really have the want, they've got to decide for themselves what priorities come first.

Being overweight myself, I understand this, however, clearly my weight is not a priority right now, and so I don't work as hard as I need to to be able to look the way I want to and until it is higher up on my list of priorities, I will continue to look the way I do.

  2. If they make fun of others it makes them feel superior. Most people make fun of what they don't understand. There will always be prejudice, whether it is racial, sexual, religious, physical,or all the many other things people think of to make fun of.  Sad but true.

I have seen some beautiful large women like Monique. Just because they are large doesn't mean they can't dress well, & look nice.

  3. Because they are arrogant. The root of arrogance is low self-respect.They think it never happen to themselves, they have it all under control. Surprising sometimes how a thyroid problem or Cushing's disease or some other imbalance can cause weight gain in people who are careful with their diet.

  4. You hit a great point here. Even good, upstanding, nonjudgmental people say cruel things when heavy people leave a room. We all expect the wise *** to make a comment or two towards overweight people, but they bust on everyone.

I've been around everyday nice people, who would literal give the shirt from their back, make mean comments. They would never do anything to hurt them, and would die if they were overheard, but they make them none the less.

It is especially horrible when it happens to kids. And it does happen to kids everyday even by adults. Maybe it is because being overweight is viewed by most people as a choice.

Sad sad sad thought, thanks for bringing it to our attention.

  5. why do people make fun of junkies..... because they do it to themselves. and yes the prejudice against druggies is still kosher!  Less than 10% of obese people have a true medical issue.  most make excuses like you just did.  it all comes down to priorities.  after five years in the health/diet industry i lost any interest in helping people that dont want to help themselves..... there is no quick fix.  there is nothing wrong with being big..just stop caring what others think.  but being big and making sound like you have no choice makes me think less! "cant afford anything but fast food" come on, you really expect people to buy that? weak premise at best.

  6. Prejudice of "ugly" people is considered OK too how many "ugly" people do you see on TV.

What about very dark skinned black people not a lot of them on TV either.

I could go on and on

  7. Good question. I guess some people just like to make fun of other people. In grade school we had this substitute for music class, there were properly 3 or 4 making fun of the teacher because she was heavy set. But one of them. I know their family, and they're heavy set. He should've taken a look at his family first.

I have epilepsy with a life history of grand mal seziures, and on a lot of medication. A few classmates made fun of me, as well as some teachers in Jr.high. They look for someone with disabilities or "don't meet thier standards". I didn't have the problem so much in high school. I went to a school about 8 miles away. Better teachers, didn't see my home school classmates hardly, if I saw them at all. With some, that was a relief.Try to ignore them,it was harder for me since I was on so much medication.

  8. It would not have anything to do with them being greedy buggers who cannot stop eating by any chance?

It is not a case of being 'big boned' or it is in my genes(jeans) who you kidding == stop eating and walk instead of driving everywhere.

Sorry for the tough love. LOL big bad wolf

  9. Because it makes them feel better about themselves to poke at someone else when they need an ego boost

  10. I think people attack the obese to validate themselves.

Look at him hes fatter than me right?  Fat is bad, I'm not as fat as him so I'm better then him.

This type of thinking makes people feel better about them selves because they don't have to focus on their own limitations and we all have limitations.

It perpetuates all the ideals of beauty which are help in western society

I agree with you about fast food being comfort food and people often get into a vicious cycle when it comes to depression obesity and eating.

However  I would disagree with the argument that people can only afford fast food so they become fat.  I don't care where you are in the world it's generally cheaper to cook food yourself when compared to eating out.

The US, UK and Ireland are three country's who really need to sort themselves out when it comes to obesity, not by stigmatizing the ob ease but IMHO by using education to stop the next generation becoming even more ob ease than the last.

    1.  Teach children how to cook in schools, f*ck the fast food industry.

    2.  Let primary school children run in schools, f*uk the US sue culture.
