  1. Because of war,over-population with little education and inept economic policies by the communist government.

And yes, the government do try to help them, but some local government officers could be quite corruptious and bureaucrats

  2. can u ask it in a way that is less offensive?

  3. People are poor; but doing much better.  The economy is on the up swing.  The country is booming and all the people will eventually have the good fortune.  The government is doing all it can to help everyone.  Everyone will benifit with a good economy.

  4. because the government, they're not helping people, they been bride or bride a lot from people. They always think for themselves, they're are bunch of mice. They are not strong enough to control a country. Because the communist, Vietnamese people cannot have their own opinion, they cannot do whatever that want. Vietnamese people are very smart, if there is no communist, Vietnamese people could make the country a better place to live.

I feel really sad about it, not because the war make Vietnam a poor country, lots of country had wars, Vietnam was divided into North and South (like Korea) if the communist didn't fough the South, the Vietnamese at South would be like the South Korea you see today

  5. Everywhere has the same, some poor some rich, nowhere is perfect, nowhere is paradise..!!!

  6. Vietnam is not poor. According to Wikipedia " Vietnam is the 13th most populous country in the world. The country is listed among the "Next Eleven" economies; according to government figures GDP, growth was 8.17% in 2006, the second fastest growth rate among countries in East Asia and the fastest in Southeast Asia."

  7. the government is the one that take the money

  8. Why? Because the government is the one who take all the money and put in their pocket.

  9. People are poor here in the states and do our government help no, it's the same everywhere.

  10. You wonder why Vietnam is still poor? Thanks to all the bombs that dropped on our head for decades. If we didn't have to fight the French, Japanese, Chinese and the lastest American, we probably are rich long time ago.

    According to Asia source

    Vietmame economy

    GDP    $168 billion

GDP - Real Growth Rate    4.70%

GDP - Per Capita (PPP)    $2,100

Imports - Total Value    $15.30 billion

    Debt - External    $13.20 billion

    Thailand  Economy

    GDP    $410 billion

GDP - Real Growth Rate    1.40%

GDP - Per Capita (PPP)    $6,600

GDP - Composition by Sector    11% from agriculture; 40% from industry; 49% from services

Imports - Total Value    $62.30 billion

    Debt - External    $69.40 billion

    Economic Aid    $.13 billion

When was Thailand fought in a war ?. Their GDP real grow rate only 1.40% compares to Vietnam GDP grow rate is 4.70%.  Vietnam Industrial Production Growth Rate is    10.40% whereas the Industrial Production Growth Rate for Thailand is  3.00%. I think Vietnam is not doing so badly.

  11. Their government is also poor not only the people, the government is also in debt from borrowing money from other countries. Communist governments mostly own the companies and businesses in their countries, but little private enterprises exist, that means that some businesses are allowed to make money on their own. .

  12. Poor? Why do u know that? U depend on what to tell that they are poor and Goverment need to help?

U have not to be taught about economy? The war had ruined the country , and u must to know who they are.

At present, the country more and more develops. and the poor people is everywhere , even in USA.

and u are so poor for thinking about it. I think u have a lot of sparetime, read more.

  13. The same people who strategically won the war against the French and American now are  in charge of the country, it will take time before Vietnam become another Japan, Singapore or Taiwan. Consider all the wars that they've fought, I think they're doing d**n well for themselves without help from other countries. Vietnam manages the relatively early stages of its industrialization process with limited access to the typical industrial policy instruments employed by other developing countries in earlier decades.

  14. I dont think the communist government has anything to do with it. Go to Cambodia, which is a democratic capitalist system and you'll really know about poverty.

Years of war with the French, Americans, Chinese and Khmer Rouge really hurt the economy of Vietnam, and it's recovery was hurt quite badly by internal corruption (which is a way of life in most S.E Asian countries) and trade restrictions with the west.

Many western countries have lifted these restrictions now, and Vietnam is ranked as one of the fastest growing economies in all of Asia (Just behind China and well ahead of Thailand). The standard of living has increased massively over the past 10 years because of this.

The "communist" government, for their part have reduced pretty much all of their restrictions on private enterprise in the country, and are really now becoming a capitalist regime in all but name. One good thing they have done (which has been recognised by several human rights groups) is attempt to hold up the working standards of the people in the country, meaning that companies like Nike cannot come in and open up sweatshops as they are required to achieve minum wage standards and working conditions. (A reason why Nike and several other major brands prefer to operate from Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia.)

  15. If there is no production, it does no good to have a communist government.  You must make money before you can tax it and redistribute it, since there is very little production there is very little tax revenue to let the government help the people.  Without capitalism there is no incentive to work hard and make money.  Why would someone work themselves to death to have the govenment tax away 40-65% of their earnings?

  16. Well, SOME are poor, that's true.

But most are average, they can afford a fancy house, like my aunt and uncle can.

It kind of depends on how they grow up and what job the took.

If they went to elementary school, middle school, high school, and college, they have the better oportunity of affording a good job which can get them lots of money.

So it's like the U.S and most other country, if you don't have an education, it's going to get you nowhere.

Also, some people are poor because their families were raised in a poor treatment.

I do not know if their communist government do anything to help them, but the scale of it is more likely on the yes side.

Also, Vietnam is a "country" country.

That means that their are mostly farms and farmers. If you live in the city, you would fine that many could get an education, but decided to quit to hang out with their friends or something like that, and end up selling out in the street or in the mall.

The farmers daughters and son, are the opposite, want an education but can't afford one.

So, it really depends on how you look at it.

  17. Long war, long war and long war

The development is more than any other countries then what will happen in 10 years!

  18. Not because of people or government, i don't think so. Because the old school of thinking of the previous governments made VN  backwards to the world.

"Rite decision at the rite time" is the manuscript of success but the ex government denied to do that because of being afraid to be overthrown. But people care about their own lives rather than the difference between capitalism and communism and the new government begin to know that. The economy is better but VN is still long behind other because if they lose one year drawback in the past, they must try two or three times harder in the present just to keep pace with the current world development.

  19. Because there always have the war.

  20. why do vietnam so poor?because we were invaded and lost the country to communist goverment who got no knowlege about economic but only get what ever they want to become a  bunch of thief, vietnam before 1975 we were the best in southeast asia.THE PEARL OF ORIENTAL is SAIGON remember?i rem those time we got car and a lot building in vietnam and most in saigon city, that time in bangkok, manila, kualar lampur, djakarta, even singapore can not compete to our lovely saigon anyway,we fighted so many wars and plus the vietnam goverment corruption that why people cant have a better life, but someday vietnam will become a dragon as we were once!!!!!!!SAIGON oi ta mat nguoi nhu nguoi da mat ten lam cho toi tan nat coi long khi nho ve saigon than yue cua toi!!!!!!!!

  21. My friend and I were in Old Navy the other day. She picked up couple T-shirts and compared the quality between the shirts that made in Vietnam and the shirts that made in Indonesia. I asked her what she thinks which one she would pick. She picked the ones that made in Vietnam. Not because I'm Vietnamese and I'm her friend but she said the quality of the shirts that she picked are much better than the ones that made in Indonesia.

That to show the quality of the workers in Vietnam are far better than other countries surrounding. It won't be long Vietnam will go far knowing the work ethics of Vietnamese people. Just look at Vietnamese people in the states. We're all independent and do not rely on the US government to support us. Give it time.
