Question:

Why are people so stupid on the road?

Getting on the highway from where I live there's a yeild on the ramp. I had the right of way, and I have only 4 years on the road, but I know enough that yeilds can be very dangerous. So I'm following a line of cars onto the highway, and sure enough someone is approaching the yield, I watch them not look, cut me right off (quick evasive move to the left, and a bit of brake, luckily I was watching and avoided a collision).

I merge onto the highway, quick merge to centre, and pull up next to the driver who cut me off so I can flip them off.

Well, the lady driver isn't looking at me, nor the road. She's lighting her cigarrette. What's worse... there's 3 kids in the car. I decide, because of the kids, not to flip her off, I just shook my head, and sped up to my highway cruise speed.

What the heck goes through people's minds? I mean, kids in the car, smoking, while merging onto the highway? What the heck could be going through her mind?

  2. I'm going to rant a little since you asked.  First of all in America, it is way too easy to get a license.  I mean you can miss like 25% of the questions and still pass.  Well those 25% may have been some pretty important questions.  I get tired of these kids on here asking how many they can miss to still pass or how long they have to wait if they fail for the third time.  Jesus there's maybe 20 pages of questions.  Takes 20 minutes to read.  Read it a few times and you should have it down but no one ever takes it seriousely. You know in japan it costs thousands of dollars and almost a year of classes before they will let you take the test.  It's a joke here and no wonder no one knows how to drive.

  3. It really is surprising there aren't more accidents.  If you think how stupid the average person is and realise half of everyone else is more stupid than that when you throw cars into the mix it isn't pretty.  Unfortunately an IQ test isn't required for a driving licence.  Chances are the idiots will remain blissfully ignorant of the chaos and near-misses they cause.

  4. WE ARE NT SIR POSE TO DRIVE CARS IN THE FIRST PLACE  TECHNOLOGY IS PART OF THE GAME WE HAVE TO PLAY.

  5. Thank goodness you were paying attention.

Everyone, here is an example of a skilled safe driver (Bravo to you Mate!!) and an unskilled, unsafe driver.  With kids in the car no less.  Lighting the cigarette was more important than the safety of herself, her family, and her fellow drivers.

Take a look at my answer (Best Answer) to a question regarding motorcycle accidents/fatalities.

If I was in charge it would be a LOT harder to get a license.  That is the heart of my message contained in the link below.  I always preach being a skilled safe driver/rider.   I will NEVER let up on preaching that message.  I have had NO accidents if almost 36 years of driving.  My Dear Father won a safety award for 38 years of accident free driving while employed with the telephone company.  My Dad taught me well.  Many, many others are not a fortunate as I was when it came time to slip behind the wheel for the first time.  Dad and I still talk about safe driving.
