Why are people so worried about paying for other peoples health care when we already are?

poor people are already covered

old people are already covered

uninsured people that don't pay their bills (yeah we cover them too)

So what's so horrible about a universal health care plan? We in essense already have that.... just with a really bad paperwork problem that raises the costs even more and makes fraud easier.

  1. I'd like for Tapestry to actually prove her 2% theory!  That is such hogwash!  I will direct my answer towards her because she obviously is worried about it.

Poor people would love to find a job with affordable health care, but when you get paid $10/ hour at a factory and have to pay over $200 a month for health care, it doesn't make sense when you can't pay your rent!

Of course the rebuttal might sound something like, "Well, why don't you find a job that makes more?"  This is my answer:

I have applied to over 50 opportunities a week online and elsewhere.  I have also reformatted my resume once a week to try and see what attracts employers better.  I have been doing this since January and I am still working low wage and I'm a veteran!

I am currently receiving food stamps, WIC, and TANF; however, I would be homeless and hungry without these programs as would my children.  I also receive free medical care through Medicaid, so the answer to this question is there.

What would the Republicans like me to do different?  They think I'm lazy.

  2. You are absolutely correct that taxpayer money already pays for the medical expenses of poor people and delinquent people, including illegal immigrants.  That is one of the reasons the United States is headed for economic collapse, because of out control spending and staggering debt.  Socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried.  Government beauracracies are inherently atronomically expensive and inefficient.  People are looking for a free lunch, even though we know there is no such thing.

  3. you want the government to control it? they cant control what they have now properly, i think it woulkd be  a shame to let them have the whole show. As you stated the poor and elderly already are sucking up my tax dollars, so why do you want me to pay more for less?

there are better ways to go about it then surrendering it to the federal govt.

  4. The current system in America is not geared to helping people but to make money for the shareholders. Important drugs are not issued, Departments are understaffed, etc. More people die waiting for treatment in the US than any other developed country.

It needs to be changed but none of the options that the Republicans or Democrats offer will make any difference, just look who gets paid big money by the insurance companies.

willbmus - If you have private health insurance then you already pay more than you would under a public system. I'm guessing you don't think the police, Army, Fire service, Schools, etc are run correctly. I can just see how it would work if everything went private. The police refusing to deal with a mugging as I had being mugged before and so it was a pre-existing mugging. Or Simply the small print stated that if I wasn't wearing blue socks the insurance company wouldn't pay for a police investigation (I'm sure I'm not the only person who has had a rubbish reason why the insurance company wouldn't pay for treatment, like you had the blood test on a day when the lab was open not when it was closed).

You may pay for other people now but the safenet would be there if you ever needed it, say you got Cancer. Lots of Companies would simply fire you and there would go your company health insurance, you'd be very lucky to find another company who would cover you. Even if you were lucky and had health insurance the lack of income and high bills, the best insurance companies only pay 20%,it would leave you in debt. With cancer treatment over $100K a year just for the drugs (those that they will pay for and even with a doctors request drugs aren't always approved) it would be difficault to find that money.

  5. nothing is wrong.. but you are not right on all already have care.. they dont give everyone it. my mom is very sick and has heart disease and cant receive it in Tenn since she has no lil kids that live with her.. now how fair is that.. but you are right the ones that have it we are paying for all them and yes we all do so what makes a difference now.

  6. 50 years ago 2% of our checks went to taxes and we all seemed to be doing just fine.

Today 42% of our hard earned checks are going to taxes and the have nots are still complaining that they aren't getting enough benefits.   If you want health care get trained in a job that offers medical benefits and help society instead of hindering all the wage earners!

  7. Finally someone stating the facts...and its true...if we had universal health care it would be a whole lot less expensive and better care  than what is going on now....everyone is paying a high price for it now

Excuse me tapestry .. I was around 50 years ago and there never was a 2% tax...

  8. Amen sister.  I couldn't agree more.  What gets me is conservative talk radio that says let the free market fix health care.  Isn't it the free market that made this mess anyway?  So why would they fix it?

I think the real questions that should be asked, esp to conservatives, is whether health care is a right or a privilege?  Once we as a society come to terms with that question then the pressure can be put on to have a reform in health care.

Shoot me an email if you would like to discuss this more.  Health care reform is a major point that I am considering in this election.

  9. I've seen one of the facilities we pay for.  The government is not good in dispensing health care.   If we hand over more control to the governmetn, more money is lost through corruptionI've seen first hand in how our money is misused and if we give more money for the government to control, they will squirrel it away to their friends

The governmeny's job is to watch over us.   They are not good at watching over themselves.

  10. If universal health care is so great why are our hospitals filled with so many foreigners paying cash for medical services, that are free at home.   Because they can't wait 3 to 5 years.

You think you pay for seniors, not even close.  Spouse has Medicare, premiums taken out of his Social Security Check.

We both covered by his co. plan, we pay premiums for and have a 1500.00 deductible. We also pay for Catastrophic Health insurance.  Thank goodness we are healthy, our out of pocket costs last year was 13,000.  So I think we are doing a good job of paying our own way.

  11. Because it would become an entitlement program.  As a result an ever-increasing share of my paycheck will go to pay for it.

Notice how neither Obama's nor Hillary's healthcare plans have any mechanism to control costs?
