Why are people such idiots when it comes to finding their seat and stowing overhead luggage?

I've noticed Southwest boards a little faster because people do not need to look up stupid numbers and sit in the wrong seats. However, stowing overhead luggage still should not take as long as it does. Why do people become completely retarded when boarding an aircraft? Then there's always some idiot that goes to the bathroom and has to go against the traffic flow to get back to his seat while everyone else is boarding.

Many people are completely out of their element on an airplane- thus creating confusion and the annoyances that you describe. I would guess that using the washroom during the boarding process probably has something to do with nerves.

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you, but you're absolutely right to point this out.However, I suspect that is has to do with the growing  hoosierism in this country.
