Question:

Why are people turning the Medellin case into one of racism/discrimination?

In the news this evening, I watched a good amount of protesters hoping to stop the execution of Jose Medellin, who raped, beat and killed two teenage girls then proceed to brag about it. In the signs carried by these protesters, I was completely bewildered to see the signs reading "RACISM' and "GIVE HIM HIS RIGHTS." I'm curious to know something. Since when was this execution about racism? This has nothing to do with racism. The man DID the deed and fully admitted it, asking for NO pity. So why do we have people crying racism? Mexican or white, he KILLED.

  1. Jose doesn't deserve to die, he just needs life in prison.

  2. When all else fails, minorities tend to use the race card to try to beat the system.

They think because the world court said not to execute him, we are being racist for doing it anyway. The treaty they tried to use does not affect our domestic laws, he committed a crime in our country and he had to go by our laws.

We gave him a fair trial.  It was one of the most brutal rapes Texas investigators have seen in a long time.

They bragged about it and made fun of it.   They admitted and the jury of their peers convicted him to death and was rightfully so executed.

The race card to them is a way to get people to join them and make everyone else seem like the racist.

    Edit:

To Femme: He was executed yesterday.

  3. yeah he is a evil person and needs to be executed, some people think the death penalty is bad

  4. I think the reason they're crying racism is because he was entitled to speak to a Mexican diplomat or some sort of attorney before he went to trial, and even then since it was found the the United States had not complied with his rights under the Geneva Convention, his case was supposed to be re-opened and re-tried. The U.S. refuses to comply.

Now, I haven't done the research, but I'm willing to bet that the logic behind this is that if Medellin had been a white guy from England or Canada, the U.S. would be more likely to comply with getting him his rights and his attorney. I really can't say for sure whether that's true or not but basically they're saying "so if he's white, he gets his rights, and if he isn't, he gets shafted."

  5. Because the people of his race will complain of an indifference.

In colleges, if you say you are Asian, you have a less chance of getting in than say, someone who is African-American[ I don't want to cause a stir, please].

Anyhow, he should be executed.  And didn't he beat, THEN rape and kill them?

If he was here in VA, automatic death sentence yo.

  6. To some people every issue is about race.  The devil doesn't care what race you are.  He'll take all the souls he can get.  Jose is with him now.

Did you know the young girls he helped rape and murder were also Latinos?
