Why are pests more of a problem for cultivated plants than for wild plants?

  1. Cultivated plant is produced without the mixture of genetic component. The new generation is form asexually, which mean the plant is having the same 100% genetic content as the previous generation.

    Wild plants produce new generation through sexual reproduction (unless the harsh condition that do not favour them to do so, then asexually). When the pollen and egg are combine and fertilized, genetic component is mixed up. This will give extra strength to the new generation to fight disease and harsh condition (some gene from certain individual are good in fighting the disease and pest)

    If all individual in an area is formed by cultivation, a disease or pest can totally destroy them.
