I've seen this with pants and jackets. They have pockets but they are completely sewn shut. What is up with that?

  1. Clothes (especially blazers, and trousers) look neater, more professional, and more polished when the pockets lie flat.  The only way they lie flat is if they are sewn closed.  On some garments you can use a seam ripper to gently open the pockets up, but if they are work clothes and if you need to look professional, you may decide to kep them sewn shut. :))

  2. They are just there for show.

  3. They're just for show. They aren't really intended to hold anything, which would pull the garment out of shape.

Didn't you know women don't need pockets? That's why we don't get decent pockets in our clothes.

  4. Most suits come with pockets sealed to prevent them from catching or bunching during transport and sale. You can open them up if you like to use the pockets or you can leave them shut if you like the trimmer look. Depending on how the article looks on me is how I decide if I need to open the pocket or not. Make sure that there is a real pocket though, as some pockets are the whole liner. lol
