That is the justfication for not helping New Orleans.

They ALL are on flood plains.

By the way, the other states affected by Katrina had primarily wind damage and the levees didn't break so there is no comparison.

  1. People are stupid when they live below sea level, when a hurricane is coming, when they are told to leave, and when they don't leave.

People are further stupid when they continue to live below sea level, when they are told levees are being built for a catagory 3 hurricane only.

People who live in flood plains, no matter where, should buy flood insurance.

  2. I am sorry but I am so very tired of hearing about all of this.  I happen to live in Ohio and I did not get flooded however, people north of me did.  But they had most of their houses and store fronts cleaned up within a few days, some even the next day.  AND.....they did it without huge checks from the government!  People pulled together and helped each other recover.  There was no looting, no killings, nothing but good neighbors helping each other.  Plus most people here live above sea level and the waters receded quite rapidly.

The people of New Orleans knew for days that Katrina was coming.  Though many poor and no where to go, there were buses waiting to take them to a safe shelter.  But they chose to stay and meet their fate.  The government cannot stop hurricanes from ravaging areas that are extremely vulnerable.  Amazing how people expect the government to be a God like enitity.  It has been two years!!  This is absurd!  There were billions and billions of both government and private sector money sent there to help them rebuild, and they have squandered all of it!  I for one am very sick and tired of hearing about those poor pitiful people.  The government is not their savior and should never be.  They need to be held accountable for their own actions since Katrina.  When you have a crime ridden cest pool of a city that sets below sea level on a coast line prone to natural diasters, you get what you get. I feel the need to add that I did not wish and have never wished for anyone to be harmed by natural diasters, however, if I was poor and had nothing to begin with, I would have gladly got on the bus and went to higher ground with hopes of rebuilding somewhere nicer.  What about all of the people in Florida, and the Carolinas, and Virginia who have all suffered severe losses due to hurricanes.  They have all rebuilt and have moved on without whinning and complaining and so have us Ohioans and NH's.  Those of us in Ohio also remember Xenia back in the 70's when a tornado litterly wiped Xenia off the map of Ohio.  They rebuilt and are thriving.  Why can't New Orleans?

I just do not understand what is happening here.  There is no excuse for any of this!!  I am sorry people died, I am sorry people lost everything, but I am tired of funding a recovery effort that never gets done!

  3. I think the root of the problem is that once a year we hear that the "flood of the millennium" happened in some place that floods every year, and the people there expect the federal government to rebuild for them year after year...and not only that, but complain if it isn't done chop-chop...and now we know billions of dollars went missing after Katrina and I for one, am tired of people living in flood-prone areas standing around with their hands out...

  4. Well, one group lives in a city that is below sea level, and has one of the most corrupt local government known to the US.

The other group lives in the Midwest.

  5. Could it be that NO is under sea level right on the sea? Or could it be that unlike most places where people come together and repair their communities, these people sat around whining and looting???

  6. New Orleans is way below sea level next to a coast... duh

  7. Anyone who calls someone stupid for living where they live is STUPID! This isn't about race, those people could be green and Katrina would have happened. This world is over populated.  Someone name me one place on this ******* earth that don't have any natural disasters that can kill. We have floods in one place, earthquakes in another, comets and meteors are possible too. Name me one and I'll take it all back.

  8. This is exactly what you get when people have the "entitlement" mentality.

And the Dem's just want to create even more of it.

My question is why is this going on in N.O. but not on the Miss. coast? They had entire towns totally disappear! I've not heard one major complaint from the folks on the Miss. coast. Why? Because they are being responsible for themselves. Oh yeah, and they have a republican governor and republican local leadership.

It's just one of those many things that make me go HMMMMMMMM!.

  9. The floods in the Midwest just happened. The New Orleans is history!!!! They need to take responsibility and have been helped more than another people. They still want more. When will they stop whining, when each has a new Home and a new car and a big paying job that they do not want?

  10. Anyone who chooses to live in a flood plain gets what they deserve.  That hardly means my taxdollars should bail out their stupidity no matter where they live.

The same is true for industry.  Just because certain business people are idiots and fail to know how to successfully run their own business is hardly an arguement for my taxdollars having to bail out their industry.

  11. How many flooded areas of NH & OH are below sea-level and costal?

  12. Because Bush and his friends think that if they suck up to people in those states they have a chance to get these people to vote Republican next year.

  13. I wouldn't say that they were stupid. Unless you were one of them you would not know what really went on and what they were able to do and not do.

We all learned from this disaster or should have.

Midwest people have to weather blizzards and ice storm damages as well. They have a tendency to pull together as a community to help each other out instead of seeking opportunity to safe themselves and their investments only.

Neighbors reach for the helping hands of their neighbors during these times.

One cannot expect the government to save and care for that many people in need. People should have a disaster plan ahead of time in case of any emergency that may strike.

One should have food, water, clean clothing, pet supplies, hygiene supplies, cameras, flashlights, medical kits everything they need put in plastic tubs or containers. Phone numbers of relatives in the same area or state for a main point contact if you get torn apart as family.

Panic can lead to death real quick ,,instead learn how you will react will help keep your head to think things through.

Anyone living around water should have been prepared years ahead for any kind of possible floods.Having a rubber raft and life jackets around isn't a bad idea either.

Stupid is when someone depends solely on another for their survival after all of this and refuse to  take hold of the reigns themselves and learning how to use it for their advantage.

  14. *shakes head*

  15. Where exactly did you come up with the analogy people are stupid in New Orleans? I seem to have missed the source.

Why don't you use your mighty mouse for some constructive thoughts like why insurance companies are denying claims on flooding to thousands, FEMA is there but the paperwork is slow. Acts of nature often are overlooked and people that even have the right coverage have such little amounts it won't touch the repair bills from these last storms.

I was in NW Indiana close to Gary for August. Never have I seen such violent thunder and lightening. We escaped floods that came close. Chicago was near and they got hit with 70-80 mph winds one day.

UNTIL we realize our weather patterns have been severely altered we can not begin to be ready for the rest that is bound to happen. There was no National Guard to help the North this time. That is another story. New Orleans was an example of how to mis manage funds in the new dawn of mother nature's fury. They must take this to a national level rather than the state. Looting and violence? Human nature. ??

OUR next President must reveal a solid plan for these disasters. DO you have any ideas beyond complaints? I am sure people would listen on here.

Thank you very much for your time. No offense intended.

  16. Spendiing money on NO is like building new housing in the middle of Death Valley with no air conditioning.  WHY would you do it,  NO is a funnel cloud sucking money out of the rest of America and a good portion supports corruption.  A beautiful city to party in but thinks of Katrina and Louisiana corruption.  I am surprised they don't a political party called "the Corruptions:"   Vote for me and I will s***w everybody I can and the easy ones twice.

    Mr Beach Bum

    Future Mayor of NO

  17. For some reason bushies need to hate New Orleans.

I haven't figured out why yet.

  18. Louisianna in which New Orleans is located is a BLUE state and we just can't have that.

  19. Because Congress alone spent 155,000 per victim already in New Orleans and the people are still complaining and "wanting more"

I guarantee you the midwest will neither ask for that amount, nor recieve that amount.

  20. Hmmm, because the people in those other places work for a living and have to make their own decisions, so they are used to helping themselves unlike the gubment leeches in NO

  21. what can i say but anyone who buys a house and doesn't consult a geologist is pretty stupid , cause the developers don't give a d**n where they build

  22. it took 3 days after Katrina for the levy to break and Nobody is shooting and looting in the other cases and NO white people are getting $2000 visa cards, Luxury Ships to live on and free trailers and handouts.

  23. cant say i knw the answer to this one.

  24. You know what, the people in NH and OH won't be asking for help or blaming the government for their problem two years from now.  They would have taken care of it and moved on with their lives.

  25. Why did you ask this question twice????????

  26. Please call Mr.G.W.B.

  27. When someone spells people "poeple", I have to wonder who the stupid one is.

  28. Those poor black people in New Orleans don't vote Republican...

  29. Because, New Orleans wants everyone to do it all for  them while they sit on their butts.... everywhere else in the country (flood, tornado, etc.) the people pick themselves up and take care of business...... New Orleans says ask not what I can do for my country, but what everyone in the country can do for me so I don't have too..... ouch the truth hurts

  30. It pretty much has to do with how they handled things in the short run. In New Orleans a major disaster was heading directly at the city and you had plenty of warning to get out of the way (my cousin was there and did get out of the way driving all the way to Atlanta). Those who didn't get out of the way when told to, had to suffer needlessly because of their own decision making. Those affected by the latest flooding are not needlessly suffering. They have food, water and shelter and are not trapped by their own decisions. Natural disasters happen and you deal with them, your inability to deal with that reality is what will get your intelligence questioned.
