Question:

Why are politicians who call on religion seen as so acceptable? ?

I'm partially referring to people such as Sarah Palin and references such as certain events, etc, being "Gods will".

Personally, I find a politician who is driven by their religion both offensive and disturbing. Nothing against faith - but faith should be an individual choice and not thrust on other people...

Yet a lot of people seem nonplussed by such political antics.

Does it bother you or do you think it's ok?

  1. Look at George Bush in every war he has started he has claimed it was his god given duty!!

Now Sarah Palin is posing the risk that if McCain gets elected and dies she will take over as president and she has stated she wants the constitution breached to teach creation and religion in schools!!  She also campaigned for Alaska to be independent so she would likely break up the union!!

  2. Yeah.

Would you rather they went against their personal beliefs & values?

    :]

P.S. I agree that a politician should not use his/her office to advance their religion's personal agenda..

At least I think that's what we're getting at?

  3. I would much prefer that politicians and appointees kept their jobs secular.  They get elected to political posts, not religious ones, and there is more than just one religion out there.

No surprise that Texas, one of the most "devout" states in the country, has an utterly abysmal science program in its public schools.

For Pete's sake, Antares, Obama is NOT a muslim!  When will this idiocy die?

  4. I disagree. For a religious person it is often the most important part of their life. It is impossible for a Christian to leave it out of any part of their life. What annoys me more is politicians who use the name Christian when they are no more a Christian than a muslim is.

  5. I am not offended by anyone who is driven by their religious beliefs. I am, however, offended that politicians are weaving their personal religious beliefs into their speeches in order to gain votes. I am also offended when a politician specifically states they base their vote in the Congress/Senate on their religious views. I didn't vote for my Pastor to go to Washington.

  6. that's because a lot of americans want that in a candidate. for some reason, they believe it's an honorable thing to submit one's self to unprovable, unidentifiable, mythological beings that live somewhere in the sky.

  7. Theyre not.

Some ignorant people associate religion/christianity with good morals and honesty. Which cant possibly be traits of a Republican. So its not very smart to assume in that way.

  8. Politicians ussually didn't have a choice in this matter. Christians are the majority and they are catered to. They are the original American special interest group. Times are a changing though my freinds because odly enough Obama is a muslim, and the polls say he's leading the Christian vote.

  9. Its so acceptable because this country was founded on religious beliefs. You can't take that away, no matter how hard people try.
