I understand jet skies are a $10,000 item, but $1400 a week is awful steep in my mind. is it the insurance, maintiance, or is this just a huge money making opportunity?

  1. I am not sure where you go for that? it's not that expensive.......try to find a used one for about 3000 dollars....then you will have one...that's almost half of your weekly.....

Otherwise, go to the area you want to vacation, ask a local to rent his for half that...or if he doesn't use it, offer to buy it from him for 1000 dollars.....

That does work....I have three now using that....

  2. Pwc's unfortunately is a major source of most boating accidents due to their nature, add to that that mosts renters are first time operators with very little experience and knowledge of boating, results in very high insurance rates for the rental shops,  which are then passed down to the renters.  Pwcs also aren't very fuel efficient, the best ones out there average about 8 gllons an hour at W.O.T. so you figure you're paying at least $25 an hour in fuel costs alone. Add to that the overhead, maintenance, registration, licensing, and initial cost  of the pwcs,  resulting in the rental business not really making an obscene profit doing this.

  3. The quick answer is "because they can be".

Supply and Demand at it's finest, I think...

  4. because people will pay it

  5. i just sold 2 honda turbos. the cost of running them is crazy high. the hondas actually had less maintenance issuses than the sea-doos  i used to have ( I guess the diff. btween 2 stroke and 4 stroke). anyway, i averaged the boats actual cost, insurance , maintenance, and gas and came up with about $82 per hour to run them. you know PWC's have 2 speeds: stopped and wide open. I know to rent them as a business makes the insurance that much more. and the last factor is making money. all business'es need to make money. these rental places are taking a risk on how safe you'll be with the boat for the week. that risk is worth gold.
