Is there some advantage similar to that of a petite horse racing jockey?

Peace and many thanks.

  1. Thats a good question and ive noticed that too. Maybe its just easier to get in and out of the cars or something. But not all drivers are short like mikey waltrip is over 6 foot..........

  2. Less weight to carry around, thereby letting them save fuel. Lees fuel stops, sooner across the finish line.

  3. Prolly they can drive faster.

  4. My take on it:

    1.  Getting in and out of the vehicle is easier.

    2.  In the event of an accident or emergency, exiting or being removed from the vehicle might be difficult if someone is quite large.

    3.  A larger body would be more difficult to maneuver when inside the vehicle, not to mention reaching gas pedals.

    4.  In general, height adds weight, and therefore those shorter often weigh less.  This is important because weight CAN affect how a vehicle runs, how quickly, etc.  --  though it may not be by much, sometimes it's enough to make a difference.

    5.  Coincidence.

  5. Hi Peace and Hugs in Tibet!

You got it!  They can move in and out and maneuver the vehicle better.  Also I believe they are not as seriously hurt in a vehicle crash.

  6. Not all race car drivers are short, NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip is 6"5 and Dale Jr is 6"1. No advantage at all.

But like in Formula 1 racing, europeans are often not as tall as americans, but still there is no advantage.

  7. The same is true for a lot of fighter pilots....and for the same reason.  They operate in such a tiny space that big guys can't fit or be comfortable or perhaps as effective.

I don't think a few dozen pounds in  a race car (with hundreds of horsepower) or jet (with thousands of horsepower) is as significant as it is with a horse (with one horse power!).
