  1.      So they will not be confused with the solid red of Emergency vehicles, such as fire and ambulance.

  2. To make the crims  have an epileptic fit and stop them  running away  ....

  3. because it catches the eye

  4. The red and blue flashing lights are there to make you dizzy, disoriented, and confused so you can't run very far. Much like at a discotheque, when you try and dance with those crazy lights, and wind up looking like a drunk string puppet.

  5. Because they provide a good contrast with the natural environment. Nothing else in nature is that bright of a blue and that bright of a red. Therefore it does allow the human eye to quickly pick out those two colors and recognize them as something they need to pay attention to. If they were a regular light then people would simply dismiss them. If they were red and green someone might think it's just a traffic light gone haywire. And the reason for the dizzying effect is to get the attention of the general public. It's not to cause the suspect to become disoriented, because it would have the same effect on the officer too.

  6. To distract you and make you crash so they can book you, they also use loud sirens when they're in a rush to get home after their shift.

  7. To make some of the idiots who drive them feel important after all..

  8. Red and blue are on the opposite sides of the visible light spectrum, so no matter what the conditions, there is a much better chance of seeing the lights.

  9. so you dont confuse them with headlights at night.
