Why are republicans preparing smear campaigns for everyone even in consideration for vice president?

cant they just focus on building up their candidate and refrain from smarmy mudslinging. or are they that desperate.

im republican, but i just have to shake my head when politicos take those kind of tactics. Obama was no better against Clinton. it makes me feel dirty, i hope the best man wins, regardless of who i vote for, or who wins, thats what we all reallay want aneyways. ♥

Mainly because Republicans aren't losers.  We were complacent two years ago and it was a lesson well learned.  NO MORE!  :)  

We're out for that jugular vein and have no intentions of allowing people into power that have no business being there.  Pick a decent Presidential candidate for a change and you won't run into this.

For the same reason that democrats are preparing smear campaigns for every possible GOP VP choice.  Bottom line: negative campaigns are the most effective.  We all complain about them and the candidates always promise not to "go negative", but they get results.

Plus neither party is confident enough in the merits of its own platform to focus on that, so they're left with demonizing the other side.  The two-party system sucks.

Could it be because McCain has nothing good to offer. So if you can't say anything good about yourself then blast your competition. Yes McCain served in the military and was a prisoner for five year. Yes, he probably understands the threat of terrorism, and foreign politics better than Obama.

But does McCain understand the economy? Does he understand the middle class person or working class person? Does he understand how painful it is to pay for a gallon of milk, or heating oil? He has so many homes he can't even keep track. Does he understand that your average American small business owner or employee has a really tough time paying health insurance costs and getting "no insurance" because they are diabetic or once had a cold? He's an elitist in the strict sense of the word.

But is Obama any better. He might have used the power of Eminent Domain to seize someone else's land for his mansion. If this is the case then that land owner's land was stolen from him. Eminent domain is legalized theft by the government, especially if the property taken is used for non-public purposes.
