Why are running backs so highly valued in fantasy football drafts?

In every mock fantasy football draft I went through, RBs made up the top five. When I picked at No.5, however, I selected Randy Moss over Joseph Addai. Did I make a mistake?

  1. there bad boys is why

  2. no moss is just like a rb now that WR get 1 point per 10 yards just like Rbs.

QBs have devalued a little now that most formats only give qbs 4 points for tds

  3. RB's are so highly valued because you get so many points from them. Most runningback will get on average 80-90 yards a game with atleast 1 td and that is a lot of points whereas a WR could be shut down very easily by a shutdown corner or just simply double coverage

  4. Simply put, it is because there is generally only one RB on the field at a time, whereas there are 3 sometimes 4 WR's on the field at any given time. There is more depth at WR. I don't think you made a big mistake taking Moss that high, but the lack of SOLID RB's in the 2nd rd leaves you with a bit of a crapshoot on your top back.

  5. you made a big mistake RB get you more points because they get 1 point for every 10 yards, compared to WRs get 1 point for 25 yards... in yahoo standerd rules

  6. Because they score fantasy points much more consistantly.  There are only a handful of elite WR's that score consistantly, so if you miss out on them, you need some consistancy.  So load up on RB's.
