Why are sentences sometimes "(2) years less a day"? Why not just (2) years?

  1. Sounds like its the max you can get for the crime.2 years or more would be covered by the next class of felony,misdemeanor,etc.


  2. two years less a day means that you serve in a detention centre....two years or more you go into the federal prison system   .......this information is for the canadian system
