Question:

Why are server's such jerks ?

The amount of complaining, and they make great money.

Being generous say 3 of us eat out and spend $100. The server will lose roughly 6% on taxes and tip outs.

A 20% tip means the server made approximately $ 14 just for dropping off three plates, approximately 6 drinks and taking an order. Three tables an hour that is some serious money they're making thats $42 per hour ! Ridiculous !

While the poor cooks, dishwashers and busboys don't hardly see 10 bucks an hour !

Servers are the highest paid people in a restaurant, yet do the most complaining and do whatever they can to not tip out their support workers.

I tell you what I'd gladly tip 30% if I knew a fair share of that was going to the kitchen and humble hard working individuals in a restaurant that do a whole lot more than those snotty nosed college girl waitresses to make my dining experience enjoyable.

****, I wasted my sweet little time going to University. Should have become a waiter !

  1. oh yeah and not to mention that waitstaff survival is as backstabbing and catty as your worst day in junior high.   Ethics don't run rampant with a lot of this group so watch your credit card additions... and these people handle your food...

  2. You seriously underestimate a server's responsibility. get a weekend job just to experiment. Serving is a job that no one fully understands until they try is for themselves.

And by the way, there are a LOT of servers who have gone to university and have done very well. Please don't assume that we are uneducated.

  3. I would not want to be a waiter or waitress cause people are rude, demanding and don't understand.

  4. serving is a very stressful job. you're constantly moving around with hardly a break. if your career was serving tables, you definitely burn out real fast.

  5. well, no one likes serving food. Servers tend to get a little cranky from taking orders for hours straight. Yes, they get paid the most, but maybe you should remind them of that.

they are the highest in money-wise, but the lowest in niceness. If you remind them of that, maybe they'll see how low they are.

  6. First off, I've waitressed for 20+ years, and you are an idiot. Sometimes we are the highest paid, only because we treat the customers nice and are good waitresses. There are many times that the cooks get paid more than we do, and us as waitresses, have to sometimes put up with nasty customers such as yourself, and cooks with an attitude.  It's not all peaches with us.

I get paid $2.83 an hour plus my tips. Sometimes it adds up with my tips to 10-12 dollars an hour. It all depends on the day.

Obviously, you didn't have a decent waitress that night/day. Why would you tip her/him if that's all that they did for you? You tip accordingly.

I dare you to LOWER yourself and get a job in your next town, and waiter for a couple of weekends. I bet you would be b----ing by the end of the night.

Everyone should have to do it once in their life. People complain about the waitress, but they won't complain about the Walmart cashier who doesn' say c**p the whole time they are checking you out. Get a life bud.

  7. I have never been a server . But I have served the public in other ways. I notice that many people delight in giving us grief just because of our serving status! People are just rude and it can get you down after awhile. You do the best possible job and they don't even tip (but I try to comfort myself with knowing I did my best)(I am a massage therapist and also work in a library). Some of the patrons at the library are just looking for a scapegoat to dump on. That's what I think happens to a lot of servers. Recently at a Red Lobster though, I had the displeasure of a server getting overly chatty with our group, to the point of pulling out photos of her new EMU we did NOT ask to see! She was a little strange, and we tipped accordingly. I think it's tough these days to serve the public and remember you have to be courteous and not try to be their buddy.

  8. They make good money?? Wow, you are very ignorant.

Depending on the restaurant, they might hardly make anything. (But by the way you are talking, I guess you aren't refering to Denny's) They practically depend on tips since they aren't even paid minimum wage.

They have bills to pay, they need to buy food, pay insurance, etc. They need the money they are not being greedy.

They have to be on their feet all day long waiting on rude people who are angry that they forgot to bring extra ketchup. Three tables an hour is not easy to do. You sit on your @ss and eat and call on them whenever you please. You want some more water, but look around and don't see your waiter anywhere because they are busy with the two other tables-- oh no! You got the worst server ever! Now your definetly gonna not leave a tip.

    You are frickin stupid

  9. Mmmm..yes, some of the jerks! they are jealous of u as nobody serves them food. next time, serve them food, but before hand, spit on the food and serve. then the jerk will be nice to u next time round

  10. Listen up:  Servers put up with jerks and well as nice people and do it with a smile, whether they feel well or not because they have NO health benefits.  Out of their tips they have to tip out the bartenders, bus boys, and food runners.  Plus they have to take all the c**p when the kitchen messes up.  And keep in mind, if people tip using their credit card....all that is taxable as well.  Oh, and lets no get started on having to work Friday, Saturday nights if you want to make any decent money.  No, I'm not a server, but my daughter busts her azz being one, while getting her degree.

  11. I've been a waitress for 4 years and I feel I am a very nice server. Some can be very rude, it matters about your tolerance. Some customers are FREAKING RIDICULOUS. When you have 7 tables and a counter (that's about 22 people to serve) and you are running as fast as you can and still getting complained at when you didn't do anything wrong.....it can get very frustrating. But, I do agree some are rude as heck. It is GOOD money though...be nice to your server and if they're rude complain to them and don't give em a good tip....some are awesome though :). It does change the ambience doesn't it?

  12. Just like any job some workers will be good and some will be bad. In the case of servers they are the top money makers in a business and therefore feel they can "be the boss" because they are so important to the business. Sadly it is true. A really poor server can s***w up a restaurant's reputation whereas the same can be true of a great server who can upgrade a restaurant's reputation.

It really comes down to the attitude of management. If they provide an atmosphere of competition where you are rewarded with the best station if you get the most compliments or highest guest satisfaction on service surveys then servers will understand that to make more money they have to be nice.

I now manage a buffet with great servers who have less responsibilities (no order taking and no alcohol) and they treat the guests like royalty. Those with the best service skills get the best stations and average $100-150 a day in tips. Those in the smaller stations get $50-75 a day - all the motivation they need.

  13. I say everybody should wait tables as some point in your life. it is not as easy as you think. number 1 when you work now at a chain rest you have to pass a number of test ranging from oral to written. i had to pass 6 test and i failed 2 of them and had to retake them. it is very stressful job on top of that. i ended up beeing a head server. i will tell you what put me in a good mood or a bad mood was the people i was serving. i know that i was a server but some people customers come in and is nothing but rude. i may be your server but im not your slave. i loved my job. i loved it. but some people you can never please. if you have rude customer that tends to make you have a bad day and that affects how you are. Now for a example. i was head server. so that means that i was prety good at what i did. I had a table of 3 come in and i had 5 other tables also. these ladies treated me like c**p. so it affected my other tables as well. i could not take care of my other tables becuse i was a slave to one. i was not just there server i was there slave. when they left they left me a tip. but it was not money it was a note on a napkin. it talked about how they hope god would save my soul due to my poor service. so some people can make you have a bad attitude. also you see some days i made good money and some days as a head server i walked out with $20 bucks at the end of the day. what most people dont know is that servers are on average only paid around $3. per hour from the rest.
