Why are signs to laundromats sometimes upside down?

I have seen several laundromat signs where the word "LAUNDRY" is upside down. Is there a reason for this? Some sort of historical significance? I've always wondered...

    Most plausible answer I found is that it probably serves as a way to grab your attention.

  2. good question, our town laundromat is like that...i think maybe it has to do with the clothes flipping around in the washer?? i dont know
