Why are smells like cinnamon, pumpkin pie, and apple cinnamon so comforting?

Seriously, it's already getting cooler where I live and it's usually the hottest part of the year. But as I've been going into stores and seeing HALLOWEEN and THANKSGIVING stuff already (oy), I've been craving apple cider and those "cozy" smelling candles. Is this "normal"? Are these smells comforting for most people? Or is it due to the fact that fall is my favorite season? It's still summer.... =/
