Why are so many Americans racist against Mexicans?

Just something I've noticed.

I'm Irish and noticed last year when I was in NYC..It was shocking:(

I mean I hate to generalize but I was there for 2 weeks and saw 3/4 instances of horrid racism against Mexican/Latino people....one was  with young people jeering a Mexican waiter at a bar.

Probably because of the whole territory thing, humans are like dogs lol... i believe mexicans should stay in mexico because thats were they belong and thats their country, you dont see many americans in mexico so why should there be alot of mexicans in america, but dont get my wrong im not racist, my gf is mexican

Racist is not it.  We are tired of paying their way through American.    I'm tired of my taxes being used to subsidize illegal aliens, and I don't really care if they are from Mexico or wherever.  

Come here legally and quit using the government to pay for everything and there won't be a problem.

I am currently enrolled in a Humanities class at my college, and the course title is Comparative Cultures. Today we actually discussed this topic! It's all stereotypical. Americans buy into stereotypes that ALL mexicans are "gang bangers" or "field workers." Although these are true and sad situations, they can't seem to get out of the rut that they are in and get out of poverty! Americans simply just buy into stereotypes that all mexicans are "bad eggs" because of where they come from, how they got here, or what they do for a living. NOT TRUE about all of them. If that was the case, caucasian people would be in for some serious trouble because there are a lot of whites that ruin our reputation with other nationalities and cultures because of their open bigotry.

because Mexicans take there jobs and don't bother to learn  English don't think its just Mexicans they don't like black people and canadeins and chines and Arab and anyone from urep and American Indian and also Australians to. The liter your skin is they will talk more @#it behind your back.

Im Mexican, and even sometimes I feel racist against my own race. They make me look bad.

We're not.  What makes you think that?  We've let 20 million Mexicans stay here illegally.  I think that's pretty darn hospitable.  Just because we don't want to dilute our culture with a culture that refuses to assimilate doesn't mean we're racists.

They are angry because many of them come over hear illegally and work illegally.  Then they get some free government help in the form of hospital care, education and some social services.  Many of them also do not speak English and, indeed, many refuse to.  This can be especially frustrating.  I used to be just as frustrated as others still are, but not any more.  Even though all of the things I said above are true and I still recognize them to be true, they just don't bother me anymore (except for the bit about not speaking English).  This is because I actually went down to Mexico and lived there for a while.  I'm here to tell you that the Mexicans literally fed, clothed, and housed me.  I will never forget this and I will always serve as testimony to that fact.  I'm also here to tell the others who are frustrated as I was that, if you come to Mexico like I did and actually meet the Mexican people and live with them, you will not be able to be angry at them anymore.  They are very good, calm, polite and decent people.  They only come to the USA to work.  I used to this it was a stereotype, but it's true.  They want to work and make money, and they work hard when they get here.  I sometimes get very emotional when I think of my love for Mexico and her people.  I challenge any of my fellow USA citizens to come down to Mexico and meet her people.

Ummm, I'm American and I don't see it that way.  

Most people I know treat Mexicans with decency and respect.  But breaking the law is a different matter entirely.  Anyone who comes into our country illegally is breaking the law ...whether by cargo ship from China, or on a boat from Cuba.
