Question:

Why are so many Police Officers uneducated?

The grammar and spelling of Police Officers in the main is nothing short of appalling. A large number can hardly string a sentence together on paper. You only have to look on this site to see what I mean, answers from so called Police Officers are laughable. There are a couple who are conversant with the Law, but most haven't a clue. Is this what the public are paying for now?. Surely entrance exams should be more stringent or do we have to put up with a gang of numptys.

  1. First off, if you believe that everyone on this site who says they are a police officer actually IS a police officer, you are sadly mistaken.

I know cops who have master's degrees.  I also know a few cops that have trouble getting a basic report written.  I don't think it's in any way fair to say (based only on your anecdotal evidence) that 'many' police officers are uneducated.

I suspect, though, that this is only a part of a larger effort on your part to attempt to make the police look bad.  It won't work, because anyone who is REALLY influenced by something they see here is unlikely to further whatever cause they've been converted to.

People either like the police or they don't.  I have found that worrying about trying to change their minds is a waste of time, effort, and breath.  I do my job.  You don't like it?  Sorry.

Anyone who thinks that society would be better off without the police isn't worth arguing with.

  2. Because they now employ mostly graduates, lol.

  3. My bf is a police officer and he has a uni degree and very intelligent. But some of the lads on his shift, OMG my best friend's 2 and a half year old girl is more articulate than them, they are morons and very ignorant! x x x

  4. Because most intelligent people are not daft enough to join the police force.

  5. Thanks for another wonderful question!!!!!

What is your profession? Then I can say why are all............ uneducated!!

The cops who post answers on Yahoo probably represent about 0.01% of the police population. Therefore your generalisation based on that is totally ridiculous.

  6. Sometimes we have to "dumb down" our answers and communication to ensure that the people we are speaking with fully understand us. I can change the way I speak to a person all the time. Years of experience from speaking to various groups of society. Everyone says that Bush is an idiot, but did you ever think that maybe he is adapting to his audience? The man graduated from Harvard, for pete's sake. Did you?

  7. When criticizing others' grammar, one may want to double check to make sure that one's grammar is also correct.  I found two grammar mistakes in your question without really trying.

  8. im not sure thats true anymore, especially with younger cops..quite a few i know have college degrees or military service..but on the flip side..who would want to put their life on the line every day for say $26,000?  finally in the city i live in, police officers are going to be paid more for a college education, i also know in NYC you have to have at least 60 or 64 college credit hours before you can be come a cop

  9. This is certainly the case with the very young Police Officers but I think it's the case with many people of that age in general (In the UK)..

  10. The reason is they have to employ a certain number of people from ethnic backgrounds now days

  11. I'd sooner have a wise copper who doesn't spell very well than an educated one without proper life skills.

  12. I know several police officers who are college grads.and in my opinion they are very intelligent.   Could you be referring to the ones who will not vote for Obama.

  13. Awww, did someone get busted before they got their morning coffee?

    poor baby....

  14. As a former cop who now works in the pogue private sector with so-called educated people, I see the results of a sorry education everyday in the workplace, and I'm talking about people with college degrees.  Young people today may be educated on paper because they sat through 4 years of higher learning, but the reality is college grads are getting dumber with each passing year.  The average four-year degree today is the equivalent of a good high school education 40 years ago, and that's why most companies in the private sector will not consider hiring someone unless they have a Masters degree.  Pure and simple the quality of education has been watered down, and the reasons for that failure fall on the shoulder of political correctness.

  15. where in Mexico?maybe

but U.S states like NY, requires 60 college credits of 2 yeara of colllege

  16. Surely, you can kiss my a55.

  17. Just because you have a degree in English does not mean that you instantly have common sense, communication skills and life experience. I would rather interact with a police officer who possessed these traits than some posh educated t**t that usually lives in an ivory tower on daddy's gold card

  18. I'm inclined to agree with you regarding the grammar and spelling thing but this doesn't always reflect a lack of ability in other areas.

I personally am not the best when it comes to exams for example but I have good grades in both maths and English and relatives often ask me to write letters for them due to my grammar skills.

Bear in mind though that levels of grammar and spelling seem to be in decline across the board, especially when you look at forums such as this one.  One example is people using the very annoying txt spk to write their questions and answers.

  19. I was told by a Police Officer that I wasn't qualified to know that my signature was forged. I know my own signature for goodness sake. He would have been better keeping his mouth shut instead of making himself look a fool.

  20. I would guess as most of them have been to state schools so that would explain the grammer & spelling.

  21. How many times do you have to ask this questions.  Its a bit like putting out fires just keep lighting them until there is one big enough to call the fire brigade.  I think that certain people are sometimes wanting more than life to be a police officer however whilst they may write very well in life they can not communicate well with people.

They often put people off side by asking the same questions over and over again..... or ONLY answer police questions..... what do you all think

  22. lol you don't honestly believe half the things people say on here do you?
