Why are so many athletes wearing sunglasses in the Olympics?

Oh, obviously if it's sunny, but I'm talking about athletes who are competing indoors. I suppose I should have explained that! Like a few of you, I suspect they are paid fat sums to wear them. I've never seen it before these Olympics but perhaps I just wasn't paying close enough attention.
