They're cheaper, that's all, and as these companies think only about profits, they have no social conscience.

Many companies just ask for "some form of ID and SSN," applicants can submit obvious document forgeries, which are then just filed. Employers almost never make an effort to verify documents, specially in labor intensive fields like meat processing and construction.. in case the INS shows up, the employer can argue that it was the responsibility of the worker for submitting false documents.
