Why are so many people against g*y marriage if it doest hurt anyone?

i would like a good reason why g**s can't be married, if you have a reason that isnt 3 words long or have anything to do with the bible, that would be great!

Watching TV and wearing jeans isn't natural, but that doesn't means its bad.  

A lot of people oppose it because:

- It makes them uncomfortable, threatens their perception of what is right or wrong

-religious beliefs (which have no place in government, and should not infringe on the rights of other people)

- Were taught to hate g**s from an early age, or a had a bad experience, maybe rape.

-Believe that two g**s raising a child is not healthy for a child, although  there are no studies proving that,  and which brings me to some other points in favor of g*y marriage (a lot to do with children):

-Not all g*y couples raise children

-Not all straight people raise children

-straight marriages aren't exactly perfect, because as i recall      50% of the time, straight marriages do NOT part at death.

-g*y couples can raise children anyway

-In the places where g*y marriage has been legalized, there have been NO negative effects.

Its pretty stupid if you ask me (which you did)

Why make it an issue?

Edit: Hey Jenn. did you ever stop to consider that someone else might have other beliefs?  Or maybe, just maybe, you were wrong?  Im not throwing my life into the hands of corrupt old priests that distort facts to their own political agendas.  Its not god I've lost faith in.  And besides, why would god make you g*y?  It has nothing to do with free will, as its not a choice.

Oh, and since when were you god? Stop trying to force your beliefs on other people.

EDIT: Shazela: thats a common misconception, which has little basis in fact.  Any s******g up involved probably have to do with being told your parents are immoral and are abominations under god and are h**l bound.  My dads g*y cousins adopted son is straight, has a (female) fiance, and goes to Dartmouth.  Yeah, pretty screwed up if you ask me.

And whats make you so sure that you know everything about parenting?

EDIT (again):   Which do you think is better for a child, having to parents who love him/her, or to live in an orphanage or something.  

Remember, lots of people adopt children from overseas, so not everyone here gets an equal chance.

I want you to know that I am in favor of g*y marriage but I believe the main opposition comes from those that fear g*y lifestyles and are ignorant to them as well. There are a lot of people that think that being g*y is a choice, like Nike over Reebok or something. A lot of politicians and bible thumpers are afraid if the social and moral stigma of open homosexuality is reduced or done away with that huge segments of the population are going to experiment with same-s*x flings and relationships... like the majority of hetero folks and just waiting for the green light to go both ways. I think that is the biggest perceived threat...

I know you were hoping for reasoning that was not attached to the bible but really if you remove the condemnation of organized religion and the generational teachings of fear and intolerance, there are no good reasons to be against g*y marriage... other that it makes some people uncomfortable with their owns feelings.

Snail has it in a nutshell!!! Number one reason g**s shouldnt be married is because its fcking kids up. Its just not right, for all the reasons snail has pointed out... it just isnt right. The kids that are a product of these relationships are all screwed up because they are living against what is natural.... and the sad thing is they will probably never know natural.

You are right... there is no good answer because it DOESN'T hurt anyone.

The people who are against it just don't seem to realize that it IS natural because it happens randomly in nature. Case in point: one of my dogs is g*y. He's fixed, but he still hits on the other one... who answers back by snarling and fighting. (And who'd blame him- no one wants to be hit on by someone you are not interested in!)

Also, they say that g**s shouldn't get married because they can't breed. But, from this example, straight people who marry should be FORCED to have kids because they CAN.

The Bible will always be involved because people who are against anything tend to quote the Bible back to you to support their theory, but they don't take into consideration that the Bible was just written by Man and has been translated and adapted over the years.

Perhaps we should rewrite a new version to fit our beliefs and bury it for a thousand years- then dig it up and call it the true lost text!

Because throughout history marriage has been between a man and a woman. But g**s want what they want and we're all supposed to give it to them or we'll be called names like homophobes. Apparently civil union isn't good enough for them.



Ever wonder why g**s didn't demand to be allowed to get married say 100 years ago?. My guess is they knew it wouldn't be tolerated by people. Why, because marriage is between a man and a woman!

Why should all of mankind have to change the way things are done just for a small percentage?

I don't hate g**s. I don't agree with it but I treat them just as I would anyone else. But on this issue I think people should stand firm. The family is already under attack in so many ways. It can't take much more before it ceases to exist at all.

There IS no reason, It just upsets society as a whole as it's not deemd 'normal'.

If two people are happy, treat each other with love and respect, I CANNOT see the problem, People MAKE it a problem, funny how people in general LOVEEEEEE the L*****n p**n, but when two women fall in love, ohh no, they get all opinionated.

I've had a really awful marriage to a ba**ard, yet i've seen same s*x unions work out far better than SOME hetro relationships, they have the same probs we do, the same fights, they just have the same genitals, I wish people would move on, there are far more important things to wory about than SOMEONE elses happiness. if it doesn't affect someones life, why give so much grief???

Bible aside, it just isn't right. Period. I mean go try to stick two male or two female electrical plugs together, nothing. Try to build a house using only male or female plumbing parts, nothing. Try to reproduce with only males or females, nothing. Somethings in the world are just made to work a certain way, in the same sense others are not. Gravity makes then fall down, we accept it. Males reproduce with females and vice versa, accept it.

ADDED: Just wanted to note, that whether people like it or not, this is an question forum. People are allowed to answer with their opinions, if they're opinion includes God, great, if it doesn't, well that's okay too. No one wants to force beliefs or be forced upon. But we are all posting why we think people are against g*y marriage.

And yes, I agree with the other, kids growing up in these scenarios suffer hardship for things they have no control over.
