Why are so many people here afraid of immigration?

I've read a lot of misinformation and factually wrong statements here. The UK has always been a country of immigration. I bet all of you have ancestors that were immigrants.

Will anyone be able to answer this without resorting to abuse?

  1. Why are you afraid to make your country a better place?

  2. immigration is one thing. but allowing the country to be flooded with the most dangerous hate fuelled cave dwellers the world has ever known and then allowing them to preach hatred on our streets and re writing the laws of this country to suit them! is quite another.

  3. Also, have you heard about the new figures that have come out? Britain will be the most over crowded country in the EU because of Immigration and births. I can't remember the figures but I know that they reckon there will be more immigrants than British births. What does that say?

  4. I am not afraid of immigration, but anything done to excess can be harmful. Excessive immigration, especially from Muslim countries is a threat to all of Europe, Canada, and the USA. What kind of idiot allows millions of hostile invaders into their land without a fight?

  5. Yes alot us originated from immigration, i have jewish, Vietnamese and many other races and cultures in my background however unfortunately our country has tipped the balance and financially we are suffering.

we have also lost alot of the culture we once had, its ashame that my daughter won't have the right to celebrate HER culture without being called a racist.

for a insight into the understanding of 'racist brits' please watch channel 4's UNDERCOVER MOSQUE-THE RETURN'

  6. Hi Iam not sure that I am afraid of immigration for those that are in need of a refuge, but mass immigration as stated above were community's are swamped is very frightening for thoseindigenouss peoples i site Palestinians in lebanon/jordan most of Africa , curds in turkey/Iraq and many more , also when we in England are told by immigrants that they don't want to be refugee in and other European country only England because everything is free, we have to wonder if these people are refugee immigrants, even the Spanish are kicking the English out of there country because they think they are being swamped.I don't know whether i am being racist i don't intend to be only observant

  7. For a fact i have researched my family way back to 1600 and they are English through and through. It is out of hand they are not wanted here

  8. If you are talking about the US, then yes I am afraid.  Afraid of losing my job of 11 years to a group of illegal, non tax paying, crime starting, economy draining, job stealing, illegal immigrants.  if they want to be here, do it the right way!

  9. my grandfather was german-came to the UK in 1921.

when he came here there were no benefits no NHS so he knew he had to get a job-he was a fisherman (a valuable commodity in those days) when he settled in a small fishing village in east anglia he became a well respected and liked member of the community-which is a remarkeable acheivment bearing in mind the 1st world war had only just ended (1918) so you can imagine there would be a certain degree of hostility towards foreigners (especially german ones!!).

occasionally he would encounter outright hostility but he was amenable enough to talk his way out of it-and if it did get physical grandad was local area boxing and wrestling champ back in a town just outside hanover so he was well capable of handling the "saturday night brawlers"-and being 6" 6 inches not many tried anyway!.

the reasons for he being accepted were.

1/ he worked hard-built his own house by hand-often putting in 16 hours a day was always polite and tried his best to learn the language (albeit in broken form but nonetheless acceptable) and if you didn't bother him he never bothered you.

2/ he appreciated that he was in a foreign land so he knew to abide by englands customs and religeons even if he didn't agree with them-in his eyes he was a "guest in the house" and therefore had no right to tell the host what they can and can't do in their own land.

3/ he didn't try to force his own beleifs and religeons upon others (sharia law??).

4/ and finally (and i beleive most importantly) when the 2nd world war kicked off all german patriots were recalled home "to join the fight" (including the battle of britain) and my grandfathers reply was "although i love my country-the people here have allowed me to live in peace and raise my family-i will not bite the hand that feeds me" so he spent the duration in an internment camp-so to see certain members of the immigrant community preaching hatred on our streets against the british government and its people (while claiming benefits) saddens me.

when grandad died in 1976 most of the community came out to see him off because of one thing...

back in 1921 when he came here he didn't try to change anything-didn't try to force his beleifs and customs down peoples throats he just wanted to work hard (quietly) and provide for his kin-he wasn't interested in stealing another persons job-he had his own craft.

it all came down to respect-and they loved him for it.

to take my grandad as an example-what is happening in this country today is frightening-and this is why so many are frightened.

    we are losing our identity.

and the reason we are losing our identity is because the beleifs and religeons of immigrants are being forced down our throats-in 50 years the white man will be the minority in this country.

and it is so sad when you consider that all england did was offer sanctuary to the immigrants in the beginning.

and that is what people are frightened of!

  10. If our Government followed a sensible and viable immigration policy as they did long before, we would have had the type of immigrants who came here in peace & friendship. Today we are allowing the dregs of foreign society to enter @1600 each day with registering for Housing and benefits as their first Priority. They cannot be the types that we can ever trust as they sprout Religious hatred and intolerance. Speak ill of every thing British including Our dress, food, religion, and the society they live amidst. Are we supposed to like that ? We are now right in the Middle of a minefield of Social ills that those responsible of leading us into are now trying to Justify the Mess rather than trying to clear it.

  11. I love immigration. My fathers family is originally from Tel Aviv and via Hungary came to the UK, they were given the opportunity to work and better themselves, as our homeland (Israel) was taken and only given back to us in 1958 (I think). All of our family are succesful and we have worked hard for this. The UK offers people the chance to have great opportunities in schooling and employment. My good friend from Kosovo came here as an asylum seeker and after 2 years of hard work is now the proud owner of his own cleaning busines, he employs his family and is making a success of it.

I do feel sorry for those coming into our great country these days as there seems to be two main groupsd of people thrust forward by our media. Firstly the poorly educated and very frightened (bless them) individuals who aremembers of the "send-'em-all-home-Club" amd then, and possibly more scary, are the "patronising-we-love-you-unconditionally... liberals who fuel the fire of their opposition.

Where do I stand, nowhere people are people and thats about it as long as what you do does not impact on me in a bad way, as long as you are cool, smile at me in the street and chat to me in the coffee shop or pub, let me bore the **** off you with intensly long conversations about where you are from and what is it like. And if you can't speak English, then no problem, where I can I'll help learn top get by, maybe you can help me learn a new language as well.

We only fear what we do not understand, and in order to understand something we will have to LEARN about it.

    Thank you and goodnight!

  12. my ancestors are british right back to when records began.

i am not a decendant of immigrants

and take offence to that remark

i am not afraid of immmigration

i am afraid of a government who allows my rights to be over taken

ie not allowed to fly my flag, not allowed to take hot crossed buns to school, not allowed to send christmas cards.

translators in schools as the kids do not speak english

being spat at because i wear shorts and t shirts in the summer

    etc etc etc

i am british and if people do not like my country as it is they are free to leave at any time.

  13. Some people are scared of what is different to them.

  14. humans are not illeagal!!!....not all americans are fooled into thinking the that imagrants are the culprits in us getting taxed to death,or healthcare problems....i know whoes behind it.....the goivernment.they penalize us for them not doing their job.people still get in....why am i being taxed for something out of my control?the government cant even stop them......the government are the bullies!......again.

  15. In the USA, all people's ancestors (except Native Americans, of course) were at one point immigrants.  It has always been a cultural melting pot.  Whenever there was a strong wave of immigrants, they faced incredible animosity here. Unfortunately, once the immigrants are settled  they often want to close the gates.  Everyone wants a piece of the "American Pie" and newcomers are perceived as a threat.  This is probably similar to the UK. Just my 2 cents.

  16. Afraid ? afraid ? bloody right i am !

British culture & way of life are being

    sold cheap.

Immigrants should be MADE to speak

english & wear western clothing !

ok, worship your own god,but please

dont impose your brand of b/s on me !!

  17. I think mostly it is the way they have been brought up, believing that 'they' are taking our jobs etc, which is rubbish. Some people are just small minded and love to have someone to blame for anything that goes wrong. We are not all like that, some of us delight in the diversity of the country and try to ignore the racists and bigots!!

  18. Immigration is not illegal. Theres something known as push and pull factors. Would you stay in a country like Iraq where it is torn apart from war? Or would you stay in a country like Sudan where famine is common everyday?

Many people emigrate to western countries as better paying jobs and housing and healthcare are available.

Although there are some illegal immigrants who should be DEPORTED IMMEDIATELY.

People are only afraid of these immigrants because of their different culture, skin colour and religious views.

What about that foreign arab student who came to study English here in the UK for only 2 weeks?

He was racially murdered because some uneducated people over here thought that he was a terrorist.

Imagine......when the next ice age comes to Europe in 500years.. we all will be immigrating to places south.

  19. Not afraid. Numerous studies prove that mass immigration is not good for the host country. Look what happened to Rome.

  20. Who says people are afraid?

Yes there is a lot of misinformation and scaremongering on both sides of the argument.

But I think a lot of people who are informed think that CONTROLLED immigration of skilled and highly educated migrants (such as doctors, nurses, teachers, etc) will always benefit the country.

Where people have a problem with immigration is where vast ammounts of immigrants descend on a community at once (as has happened in my town) and vastly increase the population numbers, therefore putting huge strains on public transport systems, schools, (and there are statistics out to show that migrants are contributing hugely to the population increase by having babies once they arrive and putting huge strains on schools later on, just look at the government statistics website), the NHS and so on. There is also resentment where immigrants are given priority to get council housing, and gain benefits when people who were born and raised here have paid in but percieve themselves to be getting less.

As for multiculturalism, no it doesn't work. And it is a huge factor in people resenting uncontrolled immigration. When a community sees signs up in a dozen foriegn languages, services such as librarys devoting entire sections to single foriegn communitys, English traditions being repressed in favour of foreign celebrations (i.e. no Christmas decs up in town last year in case someone got offended, but there were celebrations for ramadan, chinese new year, etc.) There are even parts of the country that have effectively become foreign ghettos! Things like this (and these are only a few examples) are why people start resenting immigration.

Immigration only works if the immigrants adopt the laws, language, dress codes, rules and customs of the country they move to. When they dont do this, which is what is happening in this country, people start to resent them.
