Why are so many people putting stars on their houses?

I have noticed recently that many people are putting stars on their houses. Is there some significants to this or is it just a popular decoration?

the blue star on a white background with red border indicates that you have a relative in the armed services.  While I was active duty my parents, my brother, and my grandmother all had them on their windows.  Right now there is a lot of support for people in the military, even if there isn't a lot of support for what they're doing.  The banner was developed in WWII so that military messengers could identify homes of the soldiers when delivering news (rarely good).  As the banners came down it was a way of showing a loss without talking about it.  Per the actual banner directions, you're supposed to display one per active duty son or daughter, but not too many people really follow the rules that close any more with flag and banner display.  If those aern't the stars your talking about, I'm not exactly sure.

At first I thought it was a Texas thing because it's " the lone star state" . I didn't realize it was elsewhere. I am buying a house with the star thing on the front door in the design of the glass. I thought it looked cool, but I have seen it a lot more lately. I thought it was just a popular design thing.

If my memory serves me, these stars you see were once popular to the Pennsylvania Dutch as good luck charms for their farm.  The resurgence could be due to "new" antique makers cashing in on this generation's longing for the look of yesteryear.

Yeah, i also always saw it as a texas thing, since my wife is from there and everyone has a star. I think it may have spread from there, but we can all relate to a star i guess as patriotic...
