Why are so many younger NBA fans obsessed with 3s?

I mean if a guard in the league doesn't take 3s in a game they think he can't shoot like Dwayne Wade. Smart players try to take take the most efficent shot they can make. Back in the day MJ, Grant Hill, Penny, Dominique, Clyde, and Gary Payton didn't shoot that many 3s and they still racked up points doing it with high FG%

A good player will shoot around 50% from the field. If I shoot 10 shots and make 5, that's only 10 points.



A good 3 point shooter will shoot around 40% from the field. If I shoot 10 3's odds are I make 4 of them which means I have 12 points.

Dwayne Wade is top 5 on anyones list. I don't think anyone disrespects him.

If I remember right, Drazen Petrovic was one of highest FG% guys for two consecutive seasons, and he was mostly a perimeter player.  That was back in the early 90's.  Certain teams live and die by the 3 because they work towards their perimeter shooting strength, while others may like the transition game because of their speed, and some like to continually work it down low into the post because of their strangth and height.  Not every team shoots such a large amount of 3s.

Michael Jordan in the 80s couldn't even make his threes, Payton wasn't a good 3pt shooter and Dwayne Wade isn't either. Those are all smart players, but none of them could shoot 3 pointers very good.

it like the saying "go big or go home", but it much easier to take a three point shot than a 2pt attempt. all the guys u named are physical players=more 2pt attempts, and ol' fashion 3pt plays

I agree. I'm a girl who plays basketball and I've always thought that most guys shoot way too many threes. I think they just think it looks cool....

People are obssessed with 3s because they're good for show like the slam dunk is.  I mean slam dunks only give you 2 points so why does everyone love them.  Why, because they're exciting and that's the same for 3s.  People think 3s are harder to make because they're done from far away.  But actually I think its harder for the player to go up the middle and get points that way.

3s also give you that extra point that the FGs do in a clutch situation.  This makes for exciting basketball.  If a game is 80 to 79 and the person comes in with a 3 instead of a 2 the end result will still be a win but the 3 will make it more exciting.

Are you serious? Penny jacked up nearly sixteen hundred threes pointers. Jordan jacked up over seventeen hundred threes. The nineties kids weren't shot selection heroes either.

Anyways, kids obsess about the three more because they understand simple math, and not much else ("3>2; ME SHOOT 3!").

I'd say, score is necessary. Dunk is awesome! Key layups and close-range shots is fine and the minimun. Hit long mid-range shots is a true talent and result of hard work. Hitting three-pointers you are gonna to be chose to shot the game-winning shot and are going to be remembered for decades, which is all good!
