    if the US announced and disbanded the entire armed forces and all weapons at noon on Monday, how long do you think it would be before some other country attacked and invaded the US?

    I estimate we wouldn't even get 12 hours without being invaded.

    Not all soldiers are good but American Soldiers are.

    Soldiers in any society are important.  They provide the ability to defend a countries borders, to expand a country's territory by force of arms if necessary, and to maintain peace with one's territorial neighbors.  Having an active and well-trained soldiery or militia is as necessary for any country as it is to have an effective system of laws, enforcement of said laws and stable governing body to rule the citizenry.  

    Soldiers are trained warriors, and as such are important in times when diplomacy with one's neighbors or enemies break down.  Without the soldier to stand ready, civilians would have no protection of their own beyond the mercy of the "enemy" soldiers.
