Question:

Why are some AGW believers throwing Al Gore under the bus?

When his advocacy convinced more people to jump on the bandwagon, did anyone on the AGW side of the debate argue "who cares what Al Gore says?" No.

So why do they argue that now, when his advocacy and the holes therein likely do more to fuel skepticism than to scare more people into becoming believers?

  1. I haven't seen any studies as to the effectiveness of his work in convincing people so I can't really comment on that scientifically but it seems doubtful to me. I think the effectiveness really lies more in preaching to the choir than converting the cat house, so to speak.

The problem is that when people find a few mistakes, lies, misleading comments (whatever you want to call it) in a work they tend to discredit not just the error but the entire work. If he was wrong about X then Y and Z must also be false. Thy don't bother to find out that Y and Z might just be true.

Secondly, when you knowingly or negligently put out false information it can lead to misguided attempts at solutions that in light of the accurate information may do more harm than good.

Third, in light of his lifestyle it wouldn't really matter if everything he said was dead on accurate or not, his actions have bred a contempt that shuts people off to hearing the message and the sides have become even more polarized.  Since he has a financial interest in convincing people of AGW, his message comes off as a twisted form of marketing, not information, only fueling the mistrust.

  2. Because AGW believers listen to scientists, and Gore is not a scientist, he's just a messenger.

Also because the only argument AGW deniers can come up with is "AGW is a hoax because Al Gore's wang is bigger than mine."

  3. Could it be his transparent hypocrisy? I mean this man's personal carbon footprint is larger than many small towns, perhaps even some third world countries. This do what I say and not how I do thing just might have something to do with it.

Want to be taken seriously? Then do something other then stand there overfed and complacent and tell ME to cut back. Come up with REAL solutions not just rhetoric. I'm all for common sense solutions that can be applied to everybody not just us peasants while the elite continue to consume like there's no tomorrow.

  4. They still argue the truth and validity of all the items documented in AIT and since proved by large numbers of researchers as being bogus. So since all of the major talking points of their agenda have been clearly bogus frauds when are they going to admit their whole program is invalid!
